A tiny village cricket club in North Yorkshire has made it through to the final of a national competition to be played at Lord's.

    Folkton and Flixton Cricket Club

Folkton and Flixton Cricket Club is through to next month's National Village Cup Final.

But the club near Scarborough, which was playing at a junior level just last year, needs to come up with £8,000 to cover the costs of their trip to cricket's headquarters.

They're now asking local businesses to support them.

The team says: "Such an undertaking is very expensive for a club run by volunteers. Any help making the dreams of this team come true would be hugely welcomed by everyone at the club."

  8. Former addicts host BBC Radio Leeds showpublished at 07:55 British Summer Time 30 August 2018

Meet Andy Holland from Leeds. Two years ago, he was a homeless alcoholic.

    Andy Holland

Having fled his home amid threats of violence, Andy ended up staying with friends in Leeds, but his dependence on drink made him an unwelcome guest.

He eventually ended up spending four months on the streets, shoplifting and begging to fuel his addiction.

He says: "I wanted to jump off a bridge on the city centre ring road. I had got to that point where I had no hope left."

Andy, then aged 43, approached the St George's Crypt charity, based in the grounds of a Leeds church, to seek help.

There, he was accepted on to the Growing Rooms rehabilitation programme, external, which works to help addicts become "productive members of society".

Two years on, the contrast is huge; he's sober, working and has helped present a radio show on BBC Radio Leeds. Read more about his story here.

  9. High-performance cars 'targeted by cash machine thieves'published at 07:39 British Summer Time 30 August 2018

People in North Yorkshire who own high-performance cars are being warned their vehicles are at risk of being stolen and used as getaway vehicles.

The fast cars are targeted by thieves for use as escape vehicles during cash machine thefts - several of which have taken place in the county recently, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Officers say the build-up to the thefts usually involves stealing heavy plant machinery to remove the cash machine, a van to take it away and a fast car to escape.

RS Audis, AMG Mercedes and M Series BMWs are some of the makes preferred by criminals, but the force says any performance cars are vulnerable.

Det Ch Insp Graeme Wright warns: "Keep keys out of sight, use gates and locks and, if another vehicle can be used as a barrier, it all helps to make a theft more difficult."

  13. Cyber crime on the rise in South Yorkshirepublished at 06:39 British Summer Time 30 August 2018

There's been a big rise in the number of crimes committed online in South Yorkshire.

    KeyboardImage source, Getty Images

It's been revealed the number of cases rose by more than 40% last year in the county, but police believe those figures are only the tip of the iceberg, with many victims opting not to report crimes or attempted offences.

Senior officers say online crime is expected to grow to such levels, that all police recruits will be expected to learn the basics of investigating offences as part of their initial training in future.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Forber said: "You simply cannot enforce your way out of this, that's impossible - offenders can be sitting at a laptop in the Ukraine doing it."

Recent changes adopted by the government mean any business affected by online crime is now required to report it, with police expecting a further rise in known offences as a result.

The charity's now warning social networks are a gateway for child abuse and it's calling for tougher regulation.
