for sale and to Let signs

The research has looked at how much it costs to rent a one-bedroom home.

Housing organisations suggest spending more than a third of your income on rent makes it unaffordable.

The parts of Leeds whichfall into that category include the city centre - where as much as 44% could go on rent - as well as Headingley, Horsforth and Chapel Allerton.

By contrast, Bradford has some of the most affordable postcodes in the country.

  4. Listen: MP calls for inquiry into kidney patient transportpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

A North Yorkshire MP has called for an investigation into a decision to stop hospital transport for a woman in his constituency who needs to have kidney dialysis three times a week.

Andrea Hansell, from York, claims she's been handed "a death sentence" as a result, because she can't afford the approximately £80 a week it would cost her to get to and from hospital in a taxi.

From next Friday she'll have to make her own way to the hospital because she no longer qualifies for the service.

Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says: "Patient transport has not been withdrawn for any patient who meets the eligibility criteria, which is assessed on a case-by-case basis".

Julian Sturdy, Conservative MP for York Outer, says he's baffled by the move and is now calling on the CCG to reverse its decision:

Matthew Sutcliffe, from Humberside Fire and Rescue, said firefighters used an elevated platform to "project water" into the centre of the blaze at derelict shops on Bodmin Road in Bransholme.

"We can't put firefighters in there because of the way it's collapsed," says Mr Sutcliffe.

"It collapsed very quickly and we've had to stand back and take a very defensive approach.

"We're keeping our firefighters safe and allowing the building to burn under control."

  9. Flanders mud used to create Ripon Cathedral WWI memorialpublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

A memorial made from mud to mark the centenary of the end of World War One is due to be unveiled in Ripon Cathedral later.

The artwork, entitled Fields of Mud, Seeds of Hope, is made from soil and slowly reveals itself as the mud dries out.

The piece is a combination of mud from Passchendaele in Flanders and earth taken from a World War One military camp in Ripon.

Millions passed through the camp over the years, including the likes of Wilfred Owen and Bradford's J.B. Priestley.

Artist Dan Metcalfe (pictured) said it "started life as a 9m by 3m muddy puddle.

"Over a few weeks the moisture evaporates from the mud and cracks begin to appear which form the silhouette of a troop of personnel returning from the front," he added.

The work is on display at the cathedral until 14 November.

  10. Busy Sheffield road remains cordoned offpublished at 08:51 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

Arundel Gate in Sheffield remains closed this morning after it was cordoned off late last night "until further notice".

    Cordon

The road, one of the city's busiest bus routes, is closed to pedestrians and all transport between Furnival Square and Norfolk Street.

The affected area encompasses Sheffield Hallam University and St Paul's Tower.

It's believed loose cladding at the top of St Paul's Tower, the tallest building in the area, could be to blame for the closure.

The road has been blocked off since about midnight and the road closure looks set to cause disruption to traffic and pedestrians in Sheffield city centre throughout the morning.

    Burning building in Hull

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service says power had to be isolated at a substation due to the blaze in Bransholme.

Firefighter Matthew Sutcliffe said: "Unfortunately, the building was still supplied by electricity so we've had to have National Power come out. They're now working really hard to restore power."

It is expected the electricity will be restored and everything will be "back to normal" later this morning.

    Caroline Brockelbank
    Reporter, BBC Radio Humberside

If you're driving along any of the main roads going towards Bransholme in Hull this morning, you'll see a huge plume of smoke because there's been quite a significant fire in the area.

    Derelict shop fire in Hull

At the moment there are quite a few firefighters on the scene as well as several pumps and a big platform spraying water onto the top of the derelict shops on Bodmin Road.

Most of the buildings are gone but one at the end is somehow still standing, although there's fire behind it so I can't imagine it'll remain up for long.

I’m told by the fire service that everything is under control.

The emergency services are letting the fire burn out and the rest is just smouldering with a lot of smoke coming from the scene.

The fire destroyed Grenfell Tower in London (pictured) in June 2017 and killed 72 people.

Since the tragedy, Leeds City Council's brought forward plans to install new sprinkler systems in 21 of its high rise blocks, although none have been identified as "at risk".

The council has also put up more fire awareness notices and there are more regular fire checks.

On Monday this week, four people were rescued from a fire on the 20th floor of Cottingley Towers in the city.

At its height, 35 firefighters were at the scene, but no serious injuries were reported.

  19. 'Death sentence' handed to York kidney patientpublished at 06:56 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

A kidney patient from York says she's been handed "a death sentence" after being told funding to pay for her transport to get dialysis treatment is to be withdrawn.

    Andrew Hansell

Thousands of vulnerable NHS patients with mobility issues get free travel to their appointments.

But Andrea Hansell, who has been receiving dialysis treatment three times a week for 13 years, has been told she no longer qualifies for the service.

With a return taxi fare of about £25.00, Ms Hansell says she won't be able to afford to get to her treatment. She says she can't drive and is totally reliant on hospital transport.

Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group says: "Transport has not been withdrawn for any patient who meets the eligibility criteria, which is assessed on a case-by-case basis".
