The service says this coming weekend is their busiest of the year, with private bonfire parties causing problems by "secondary fires" springing up.

These can include anything from grass fires to wheelie bin and rubbish fires, last year the service says it attended 68 of them.

WYFRS did stress though that it wants "families to enjoy the bonfire season," but stressed the best way to do it is to attend an organised event.

  10. No Meningitis C baby vaccine plan despite rise in casespublished at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2018

There are no plans to reintroduce Meningitis C immunisations for babies in Yorkshire and the Humber despite a rise in cases, health bosses say.

Kia Gott and her mother Vikki Mitchell

Across England, infections in children under one year of age jumped from four in 2017 to 15 in 2018, with eight of the incidents recorded in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The Men C vaccine was administered for three-month-old babies until July 2016.

Paul Gott and Vikki Mitchell, from Bradford, whose daughter Kia (pictured) had all four limbs amputated after contracting the disease when she was just months old, are among those calling for Public Health England (PHE) to reintroduce the vaccine for babies.

Ms Mitchell said: "I know you can still contract it if you are vaccinated, but the vaccination stops the severity."

PHE said it had investigated the recent rise in cases in the region but found no evidence to suggest it was anything other than an "unfortunate but random event" and had no plans to reverse the decision.

North Bridge is closed for resurfacing work and will be shut until the end of the week.

Commuters faced long delays during yesterday's morning rush hour, because another main route into the city was also blocked because of a burst water main.

Councillor Daren Hale, the deputy leader of Hull City Council, said the work was needed to allow more traffic to use the bridge when a major project to upgrade the A63 begins.

He said: "What this does show is the fragility of the road network, which is why we need the A63 upgrade, which is the driving force behind the works on North Bridge."
