    Vulnerable children in Bradford are being put in danger, with inspectors saying the city's Children's Services have "rapidly deteriorated", according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    A report released today by Ofsted, external says Bradford Council's Children Services is "inadequate", with the watchdog saying children are "at risk of serious harm".

    The main reason for the drop in quality in the past 18 months has been a huge increase in demand for services, the report adds.

    It comes at the same time as a "significant" number of staff have left the council's children's services, it adds.

    Responding, Susan Hinchcliffe, the leader of Bradford Council, says: "We are very sorry this has happened and we will act quickly and address it.

    "We have increased spending in children's services by 6% this year, but we are going to have to spend more on Children's Services and we will deliver rapid improvements."

    Campaigners against the planned high-speed HS2 rail route near Wakefield are expected to come face to face with the people behind the proposals later.

    Officials working on plans for HS2 are due in Crofton to ask for people's views on the route as part of a consultation.

    A maintenance depot was due to be built there, but that will now be built in Leeds.

    However, the line is still expected to go through the village and local residents say it will "destroy" the area.

    Part of a main route in and out of Hull is closed this week.

    North Bridge is shut until Friday for resurfacing work.

    It could cause delays during rush hour and diversions via Drypool Bridge are in place.

    A car has been stopped and seized by police after being spotted doing 115mph on the M606 in Bradford.

    The car had previously failed to stop for police last night, but three police cars brought the vehicle to a stop at Bridgewater Place in Leeds.

    No arrests have been made, but police say the car has been seized as officers try to find out who owns the vehicle.

    There are reports of a two-vehicle collision on Sutton Road in Hull, near the Ennerdale Leisure Centre.

    The road is currently partially blocked and police are also likely to close the roundabout at that location.

    Commuters are being asked to avoid the area.

    A ballerina from Barnsley who was told she'd never be a professional is now performing with the Russian State Ballet.

    At the age of four, Tala Lee-Turton began dancing at Fearons-Middleton School of Dance in Barnsley before later attending programmes at the Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet and Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre.

    She was accepted into the Bolshoi when she was 16 and received sponsorship as well as raising money towards the cost of training at the academy, which averaged £15,000 a year.

    Now she's back home in Yorkshire, performing in Giselle, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.

    Businesses in Hull and East Yorkshire say they want to see a government commitment to investment in skills and training in the budget today.

    Chancellor Phillip Hammond is due to set out the government's financial plans later.

    In the past decade there has been a skills shortage in the Humber region, but Rory Clarke, managing director of Hull shipping company JR Rix & Sons says it's got worse in the last year.

    A teenager is being treated in hospital for suspected neck and spine injuries after a crash in North Yorkshire.

    It happened at about 10:00 on Sunday on Beckwith Road in Harrogate.

    It's thought a Vauxhall Astra hit a parked car and then rolled onto its side.

    The driver, a woman in her 40s, was also taken to hospital after going into shock.

    Train operator Northern is introducing penalty fares on more of its Sheffield routes this week.

    The fines are designed to discourage people from travelling on trains without first paying their tickets.

    The penalties on the Sheffield to Lincoln route will be £20 or double the cost of a single fare, whichever is the more expensive.

    It follows a trial of the penalty fares earlier this year in West Yorkshire.

    A man's being treated in hospital for serious injuries after being found in the road in Sheffield.

    The 32-year-old was found on Dyche Lane in Jordanthorpe at about 03:00 on Saturday morning.

    Police are appealing for information about how the man came to be so badly hurt.

  15. Fossil collector rescued following Staithes landslidepublished at 07:17

    A fossil collector had to be rescued after becoming trapped up to his waist in mud following a landslide in North Yorkshire.

    Fishermen called emergency services at about 20:15 on Saturday after spotting the man trapped near Staithes.

    Staithes Coastguard said the fishermen had helped free the man from the mud and debris by the time they arrived.

    The coastguard said it had been an "extremely challenging rescue" and appealed for people not to risk their lives collecting fossils from cliff faces which are "prone to land slips".

    The body of a woman thought to be in her 50s has been found in a cemetery in Hull.

    Police were called at about 09:30 on Sunday morning to Western Cemetery.

    The woman's body had been discovered on a pathway.

    Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and investigations are continuing, police say.

    • The 07:00 Leeds to London Kings Cross service is delayed

    • The 07:45 Bradford Interchange to Leeds service is cancelled

  19. Halifax fatal stabbing: Three teenagers questionedpublished at 06:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2018

    Three teenagers continue to be questioned by police on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in West Yorkshire.

    Police were called at about 21:30 on Saturday to reports of a disturbance on East Park Road in the Ovenden area of Halifax.

    Officers found two males with stab wounds and a third with a head injury. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

    One of the teenagers, aged 17, died a short time later.

    The other two injured teenagers are not thought to have life-threatening injuries. Both are in a stable condition.
