    Unison members dressed up in Halloween costumes, highlighting what the union says is "the horror" facing up to 250 workers at the university.

    Announcing the proposed job cuts earlier this year, Bradford University vice-chancellor Brian Cantor said the decision was due to a decrease in applications from the UK and as a result of changes to the government's funding arrangements.

    Unison has rejected a letter from managers at the university which claims compulsory redundancies are "unlikely".

    Peter Lawrence, the father of missing York woman Claudia Lawrence, is to receive an OBE later for services to the families of missing persons.

    Claudia Lawrence disappeared on her way to work in York in March 2009. Officers believe the chef, who was 35 when she went missing, was murdered.

    A bill, known as Claudia's law, which lets relatives look after a missing person's finances and property, has passed through parliament and should come into effect in the next few years.

    Mr Lawrence founded the bill which was then proposed in parliament by Kevin Hollinrake, the Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton.

    A blind woman was attacked with fireworks in a Leeds park last night, police have said.

    The woman, who is in her 50s, was with her guide dog and was coming out of Woodhouse Moor park in the Hyde Park area of the city at about 20:00, when youths began to throw fireworks at her.

    The woman and her dog weren't hit by the fireworks and both were uninjured, but she was left upset and distressed and her dog tried to run off.

    She told West Yorkshire Police it sounded like three to four youths were involved and that they had been about 20 metres away from her.

    Two women came to her aid and helped her to safety, officers say they want to speak to them as they may have vital information.

    CCTV is also being checked to try and find out who was behind the attack.

    South Yorkshire-based butchers Crawshaws is to appoint administrators after failing to raise enough money with investors.

    The Rotherham-based butcher, which was originally launched in 1954, has said it does not have sufficient cash to restructure.

    Last month, Crawshaws reported a double-digit drop in like-for-like sales

    The firm has 662 employees in 54 stores, with 42 shops on the high street and the rest in the Midlands and North of England.

    Last week, the company was told to improve its labelling after it was found to be freezing meat but not telling customers.

    A 12-month campaign to make Hull into what's being called a "Vegetable City" is due to begin today.

    It's being run by the Hull Food Partnership and the ultimate aim is to encourage people, especially children, to get healthier by eating more vegetables.

    Free vegetable soup will be handed out in the city centre later today to mark the start of the campaign.

    A Scarborough road is to be closed after a "void" was found underneath it during roadworks.

    Somerset Terrace will be closed from tomorrow as council workers try to fill the hole which was discovered during routine utility works.

    The road will be closed to traffic between the junction with The Crescent and Valley Bridge Road.

    Voids underneath roads can happen as the ground shifts and, in worst-case scenarios, can lead to the road collapsing in on itself.

    Police are trying to find a man who's gone missing from the Woodsetts area of Rotherham.

    Malcolm Green, 37, has been missing from his home on Dinnington Road since Sunday at where he was last seen at about 09:00.

    Mr Green is described as being of average build, with light brown hair with the sides longer on the top and he has a bulldog tattoo on his right forearm.

    He is believed to be wearing a pair of jeans and a dark blue t-shirt.

    It is thought he may be in the Rotherham, Doncaster or Worksop areas.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    Long delays and queueing traffic remain on the M621 westbound from J5 Tunstall Road (Hunslet Distributor) to J4/A61 (Leeds city centre) due to an accident.

    There's congestion to the M1 interchange (J43 Belle Isle) as well as the M1 northbound tailing back to before J41 (Carrgate).

    Routes through Belle Isle including the A639 are affected and the M62 in both directions approaching the M1 is also building up as a result.

    All lanes have now been re-opened.

    The woman who led Hull's City of Culture celebrations has a new job as the executive director of the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival.

    Francesca Hegyi, who was awarded an OBE in this year's New Year's Honours list for her work in Hull, is due to take up the post in February,

    Hull City of Culture saw more than 2,800 activities, installations and exhibitions take place during the year-long cultural celebration in 2017.

    The Edinburgh Festival has run for more than 70 years as a cultural event, bringing audiences and artists from around the world to Scotland.
