    The prosecution of seven men who've now been found guilty of grooming and abusing young girls in Rotherham was part of Operation Stovewood.

    The operation is the largest law enforcement investigation into non-familial child sexual exploitation in the UK

    It began in 2014 after a report found at least 1,400 children in Rotherham were the victims of abuse between 1997 and 2013.

    Run by the National Crime Agency, it is working with 296 alleged victims, has identified 151 suspects and is running 22 ongoing investigations.

    More than 150 officers work on the operation and there are plans to recruit another 100.

    It is jointly funded by South Yorkshire Police and the Home Office and, when up to full strength, will cost £15m a year to run.

    Following today’s verdicts, 14 people have been convicted and 24 others charged.

    Seven men have been found guilty of grooming and abusing young girls in Rotherham over a seven year period.

    The men, all from South Yorkshire, were convicted of offences including rape and indecent assault.

    Mohammed Imran Ali Akhtar, 37, Asif Ali, 33, Tanweer Ali, 37, Salah Ahmed El-Hakam, 39, Nabeel Kurshid, 35, Iqlak Yousaf, 34, and a seventh man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were convicted after a trial.

    The convictions are the latest to come out of Operation Stovewood, the National Crime Agency's (NCA) investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, which has identified more than 1,500 victims.

    Sheffield Crown Court heard how the men targeted and exploited the teenagers before subjecting them to to acts of a "degrading and violent nature".

    An eighth man, Ajmal Rafiq, 39, was found not guilty of one count of false imprisonment and one count of indecent assault.

    Sheffield Crown Court heard how the men targeted and exploited the teenagers before subjecting them to to acts of a "degrading and violent nature".

    One girl described being bitten and raped by two of the men in Sherwood Forest while "high as a kite" on drugs.

    The men, all from South Yorkshire, were convicted of offences including rape and indecent assault.

    A man has been charged following an armed robbery at a village post office near Doncaster last week.

    James Jackson, 39, of Crompton Avenue, Sprotborough, has been charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm and criminal damage, police say.

    He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 23 November.

    A production of Dark Winter, based on a book of the same name by author David Mark, is returning to Hull Truck next month.

    The play will run from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 November and follows a sell-out run in March, according to the theatre.

    The story involves an ex-trawlerman from east Hull, an adopted teenager from Hessle and an arsonist from Orchard Park.

    It will be directed by Andrew Pearson.

    Hull Trains say it's going to be running a reduced timetable until it has its four trains back in service in mid-November.

    The company has been dogged by problems, with its fleet of four trains suffering numerous breakdowns and the news last week that it's the most complained about rail firm in the country.

    Hull Trains say three of its trains have been fully repaired, but it will be counterproductive to run a full service right now.

    Only eight out of 14 services are currently operating as normal, the company said.

    It is also looking to source an additional train, ahead of the delivery of a new fleet next year.

    Police have named the 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death on Saturday.

    Jamie Brown was stabbed on East Park Road in the Ovenden area.

    West Yorkshire Police found the 17-year-old along with two other males with stab wounds and a third with a head injury, the two others did not have life-threatening injuries.

    Three teenagers, two aged 16 and one 14, were arrested on suspicion of murder overnight.

    Three 17-year-old boys who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday night also remain in custody.

    Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked in a quiet residential area in Skipton.

    It happened at about 16:55 last Thursday on Burnside Avenue.

    The victim was knocked to the ground and subjected to a "prolonged and unprovoked attack", police say.

    Two men, possibly in their late teens to early 20s, are said to have been involved, one of whom was pushing a mountain bike.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police.
