    More on the news that Channel 4 has chosen Leeds as its new national headquarters.

    The move will see 200 staff relocate from their London offices, which is part of a plan to increase the amount Channel 4 spends on programmes outside of the capital by £250m over the next five years.

    The new HQ will regularly host executive and board meetings, and will be home to a "digital creative unit" to make material for online platforms and social media.

    Channel 4 said Leeds put forward an "ambitious strategy" to support growth in the creative industries and "to nurture new talent from diverse backgrounds - in the region and across the UK".

    Negotiations over a new stadium for Wakefield Trinity will not take place in public, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    Councillor Peter Box said the local authority was talking to the rugby league club and developers about the long-awaited prospect of a new ground, but would not disclose any more details.

    Fans' hopes of a new £19m stadium on Newmarket Lane in the city have been hit by years of setbacks, after the government initially approved plans in 2012.

    Earlier this month, the site's owners Yorkcourt were accused of "circumventing" the agreement to avoid building the ground, by Wakefield MP Mary Creagh.

    Channel 4 will set up a new national HQ in Leeds in an attempt to boost the way it reflects life outside London.

    The broadcaster will keep another headquarters in the capital, but will move roughly 200 of its 800 staff to the West Yorkshire city.

    Leeds was chosen above Birmingham and Greater Manchester, which were also on the shortlist.

  4. Six arrested after Harrogate 'smash-and-grab'published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2018

    A 45-year-old man and five teenagers have been arrested after a phone shop in Harrogate had its front doors smashed and its stock stolen last night.

    It happened at the EE shop on Cambridge Street at about 23:50, and police officers, dog patrols and the police helicopter were scrambled quickly after the alarm went off.

    Various smart phones and tablets were taken.

    The group of thieves made away in a grey Renault Clio.

    Two of the suspects were arrested in a nearby field off the A61, after the car had been abandoned in the middle of the road.

    The other four were arrested walking along the A61 towards Harewood at about 03:00 this morning.

    The males, aged 45, 17, 16, 16, 15 and 15, remain in custody for questioning.

    Drivers have faced long delays all week, partly because another road Bankside had to be shut because of a burst water main.

    The fire service has confirmed that a man has died after a fire at a flat on St Lawrence Road in Tinsley, Sheffield.

    The blaze was reported just before 11:00.

    Fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, fought the flames which were on the second floor of the building.

    There were no other individuals hurt in the blaze, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

    An investigation is now under way to find out what caused the fire.

    Fire crews at a blaze on St. Lawrence Road in Sheffield this afternoon have scaled back their operation.

    The fire was largely contained to one flat on the second floor of the building, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

    Two pumps remain at the scene continuing to dampen down the area.

    It's expected an investigation into the blaze will start once that's complete.

    Over the last few months, we've been following Britain's first guide horse's training but now there's a new twist to Digby's story.

    The Shetland Pony which has is being trained in Northallerton was meant to be paired up with a visually-impaired person who has a phobia of dogs.

    But Digby's grown too big for the owner he'd been matched with and now he needs a new home.

    His trainer Katy Smith said: "Digby's job is far from over, he'll still be trained as a guide horse and you'll continue to see him out and about- his journey is just starting."

    After training Digby will not only become a fully qualified guide horse but will also become a buddy for other trainee horses.

    The winner of the Great British Bake Off has said he wouldn't have applied for the show if it wasn't for the support from his hometown of Rotherham.

    Rahul Mandal, who works at the University of Sheffield, triumphed over fellow finalists Kim-Joy Hewlett from Leeds and Ruby Bhogal to be crowned 2018's winner.

    "If I was not in Rotherham I probably wouldn't have even thought about applying because the people here are so lovely", he said.

    "They've inspired me a lot. Thanks to everyone in Rotherham, they've given me so much positivity and influence."

    A beech tree grafted into an N-shape to woo a sweetheart named Nellie has been crowned the UK's tree of the year.

    Nellie's Tree, in Aberford, West Yorkshire, beat a giant redwood in Northern Ireland, a Scottish spruce and a Welsh oak to scoop the overall prize.

    Almost 100 years ago, Vic Stead grafted a sapling between two others to form the letter N as he went to meet Nellie.

    Vic's elaborate move also worked with Nellie, as the pair went on to marry and start a family.

    Nellie's tree will now go on to represent the UK in the European tree of the year contest in early 2019.

    All six teenagers who were arrested following the stabbing of a 17-year-old boy, who died in Halifax on Saturday, have been released on bail.

    Jamie Brown died after he was attacked on East Park Road, in the Ovenden area of Halifax, on Saturday night.

    The six arrested teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, have been released pending further enquiries, police said.

    Detectives are urging people to come forward with any information regarding the incident.

    A bag of synthetic drug Spice has been found in a stab vest in Sheffield city centre.

    It was found moments after a man was stabbed in the leg.

    Three people were detained after the city centre attack last night, according to police.

    Cash was also recovered, with police describing the man wearing the stab vest as a "suspected offender".

    South Yorkshire Police said it showed that "low level drug use and supply can lead to more serious criminal activity with significant consequences."

    Plans to relocate a sewage plant on the East Yorkshire coast have been approved, despite opposition from people living nearby.

    Yorkshire Water has been given permission to build a new plant in Hollym, near Withernsea, because it says the existing treatment works (pictured) are at risk of falling into the sea due to coastal erosion.

    The new £30m plant will be built two kilometres inland.

    Local residents have opposed the plans because of concerns about the location and possible smell.

    Yorkshire Water says the work is essential and residents will be updated throughout the works.
