    A 71-year-old woman who was hit by an unmarked armed response police car remains in a "serious" condition.

    The incident has been referred to the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), by West Yorkshire Police.

    The woman was injured shortly after noon yesterday in Roseville Road, Leeds, according to the IOPC.

    The woman's injuries are "serious" but are "not believed to be life-threatening", the IOPC adds.

    Another pedestrian, also believed to have been hit by the police car, walked away from the scene.

    Police want him or any other witnesses to get in touch.

    Britain's first astronaut received an honorary degree in York yesterday and gave "some celestial words of wisdom" for university graduates.

    Dr Helen Sharman, who visited the Mir space station in 1991, was one of the "inspiring women" being celebrated by York St John's University.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the outskirts of Bradford which left an elderly woman seriously injured.

    It happened at about 08:00 yesterday when a black Honda HR-V car was travelling down Cragg Lane, towards Brighouse Road in Denholme.

    The vehicle hit a metal fence at the side of the road and went down a hill before crashing into a dry stone wall.

    A man and woman in their 70s were taken to hospital.

    Her condition is described as critical but stable, while the man is also receiving further treatment.

    Plans are being drawn up to try and increase tourism in Hull and East Yorkshire, in the hope it will bring an extra £1bn into the local economy by 2024.

    The number of tourists coming to Hull has increased year on year since 2012.

    The latest figures show the sector is currently worth £313m to the city.

    Tourism bosses say Hull's stint as UK City of Culture has given them a good boost, but this is just "the start of a story".

    Anthony Yates from Visit Hull and East Yorkshire said: "It's really put in the foundations for the visitor economy to build and grow in future years."

    Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a Barnsley man earlier this year.

    Gary Dean was found with significant injuries in woodland in Silkstone Common in September.

    This morning, a 40-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman, were re-arrested in connection with Mr Dean’s death.

    A third person, a 49-year-old woman, has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    All three are in police custody.

    Despite the recent rain Ladybower Reservoir's water levels are still very low.

    It has prompted photographers to flock to the site and they've been capturing some terrific images:

    The reservoir is west of Sheffield, just off the A57 heading towards Manchester.

    Video from the area show the remains of the flooded Peak District village of Derwent, which have reappeared after the summer's long dry spell.

    Latest figures show nearly 6,000 people are now homeless in Yorkshire.

    Rough sleeper

    That's an increase of about 600 from last year, according to the charity Shelter.

    Nationally it says 320,000 people are now in temporary accommodation or sleeping rough.

    Greg Beales from the charity says: "There are many people in Yorkshire living in temporary accommodation who need immediate help and a route to a safe and stable home."

    Experts from Yorkshire say there should be tighter rules on spending money within video games.

    In some games you can pay for extra rewards called loot boxes.

    But there are no age restrictions on them and researchers at York St John University claim they've found a link with problem gambling.

    They including the Help Us Help Christmas cabin in the Peace Gardens, the Sheffield Hallam Students Union and John Lewis.

    Sheffield City Council has overspent by £14m and will need to dip into its reserves to pay the bills, according to a report.

    The report, which was brought up at a cabinet meeting, says the most significant driver of this overspend is the demand on social care services.

    It's the same story for other local authorities across the country and Sheffield City Council says their position isn't as bad as some others.

    It's thought they have reserves of about £12m, of which they may have to spend £10m.

    Children from every secondary school in Hull have been invited to a summit to try and tackle bullying.

    Nearly half of children say they have been affected by bullying, according to the city council.

    Young people and teachers from across the city will be at the event at the city's Guildhall to try to find ways to tackle the issue.

    Kaitlyn Robson, 16, from Hull Young People’s Parliament, said: “Bullying has been a concern for a long time, so this summit is a good way to begin the change and stop bullying happening in schools.”

    Each secondary school in Hull has been asked to identify three young people and two staff members who are willing to attend the summit and become anti-bullying ambassadors.
