MP 'not going anywhere' despite no confidence votepublished at 09:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2018
The Labour MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge Angela Smith has said she's not stepping down, despite a vote of no confidence from her own constituency party.
Members said the MP has been a persistent critic of the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and opposed the party's policy on taking water companies back into public ownership.
The motion was voted on on Friday night and received 27 votes to 20.
The former shadow deputy leader of the house said there was a lack of tolerance in the constituency party.
"The reasons I think are entirely related to a lack of tolerance on behalf of some members in the constituency party", she said.
"They don't like people having difference different to theirs and they don't think those different views should be articulated and I find that incredibly worrying."
