    A woman who smuggled drugs into a South Yorkshire jail during a visit has ended up behind bars herself.

    Emma Longden, 28, of Packman Road, Rotherham, pleaded guilty on Friday at Sheffield Crown Court to taking prohibited articles into HMP Doncaster.

    She was visiting a prisoner in November when a guard noticed the prisoner was hiding a package under his clothing.

    The package contained Class A drugs, including heroin, crack and cocaine.

    She was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the offence, which breached a suspended sentence, triggering a further three months being added to her sentence.

    Police said the 28-year-old "went from being a visitor to a prison inmate herself in less than 24 hours".

    Campaigners who are trying to keep a landmark spa in Sheffield in public use say they're planning to launch a major fundraising campaign in the new year.

    The Grade II-listed Birley Spa Bath House, in Hackenthorpe, was set to be sold off at auction in September after the council said it would cost too much to renovate.

    But the Friends of Birley Spa managed to get the site designated an asset of community value in November - which gave them six months to come up with a viable plan for its future.

    Police were called to a Leeds jail after reports that packages containing drugs and mobile phones had been thrown over the wall.

    Staff at HMP Wealstun, at Thorp Arch near Wetherby, raised the alarm at 15:05 yesterday.

    A car linked to the incident was later stopped by police in Easterly Road, Harehills, and three men from Bradford were arrested on suspicion of throwing an article into a prison.

    The men, aged 20, 23 and 26, have been released under investigation while the police investigation continues.

    An armed robber wielding a knife was tackled by staff at a fast food restaurant in Leeds.

    Police were called at 02:45 today to the incident at the McDonald’s restaurant in Killingbeck Drive, Killingbeck, near Leeds.

    The masked raider threatened a male member of staff and took a quantity of cash.

    As he dragged the staff member back through the restaurant other members of staff tried to grab him.

    He managed to run off but dropped most of the money he had stolen.

    Campaigners in North Yorkshire are urging people to make a new year's resolution to use less plastic in 2019.

    David Attenborough's Blue Planet BBC TV series this year raised awareness of plastic pollution in our seas.

    Every summer a group of volunteers pick up discarded plastic and litter off the South Bay beach in Scarborough.

    But the group is urging people to cut down on the use of plastic before it ends up in our oceans and on our beaches.

    Police officers say the distinctive items were taken from a house in Woodhouse between 16:15 and 18:30 on Saturday 1 December.

    The force is appealing to anyone who has been offered the items for sale to get in touch with them.

    People in Huddersfield are being invited to a New Year's Day clean-up in the town centre.

    It's been organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association and is due to start at 09:30 on New Year's Day in Market Place.

    Last year, about 50 people turned up to volunteer for the clean-up operation.

    Six months after the last banks in Hornsea closed, local residents say the replacement mobile service isn't good enough.

    The Lloyds Bank van visits the town three times a week but people who queue up to use the service say it's "disgusting" they have to wait in the rain.

    Local businesses have also complained they weren't given enough support when their local branch shut.

    But banks say the new system is the best way to keep a service in rural communities, saying it can do everything a traditional High Street branch could.

    Three people have been taken to hospital after being injured in a two-car crash on the Woodhead Pass.

    One person had to be cut out of their car after the smash between an Audi and a Nissan Qashqai, Derbyshire Police said.

    The A628 is currently closed and is expected to remain so for some time, according to the force.

    The closure is in place between New Road and the B6105.

    A dad-of-two from Otley who was seriously injured in a car crash in North Yorkshire just before Christmas has died, police have confirmed.

    Paul Cooper (pictured), 34, was taken to hospital following the collision which happened at about 09:35 on Friday 21 December at Pot Bank, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate.

    The crash involved Mr Cooper's grey Lamborghini Huracan and a white Kia Rio.

    He died in the early hours of Saturday 29 December, police say.

    Police are growing "increasingly concerned" for a missing 16-year-old Sheffield girl who has been missing for 10 days.

    Pamela Horvathova was last seen on Friday 21 December at about 10:00 on Staniforth Road.

    She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved, red Primark crop top, blue jeans and new black trainers.

    It’s thought she was also wearing a black pullover top, with a white logo and white stripes down the sleeves.

    Anybody who has seen Pamela is asked to get in touch with police.

    Sheffield Wednesday FC has claimed that one of its players did not attend a court hearing as he was unaware of the legal proceedings.

    An arrest warrant was issued for Fernando Forestieri after he failed to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on Friday.

    The 28-year-old striker was facing charges relating to a post-match brawl.

    He has been charged with using threatening words and behaviour and racially aggravated harassment during a pre-season friendly on 24 July, the court said.

    Sheffield Wednesday said neither the club, the player nor his legal team were aware of the court date and the "arrest warrant for his failure to attend court will not now be pursued".

    A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Police said: "A course of action has been agreed and the 28-year-old man will be attending court on a pre-arranged date."

    Leeds is bucking the trend when it comes to dealing with abuse of disabled parking permits with the city having the largest number of prosecutions outside London, new figures show.

    Analysis by the Press Association found 94 out of 152 (62%) local authorities in England did not pursue anyone for abusing the scheme in 2017-18.

    Almost every case involving the 1,215 prosecutions across the country involved drivers using someone else's blue badge.

    The permits allow holders to park for free in pay and display bays and for up to three hours on yellow lines, except for where there are restrictions.

    However, the figures show there were 78 prosecutions in Leeds, the third highest number in the country.

    Investigations are continuing today after the body of a man was discovered inside a car in a ditch on a country road in North Yorkshire.

    Police said the black Peugeot 206 was found at a crossroads at Cliffe Common, near Selby, at about 07:00 on Saturday.

    Paramedics pronounced the 78-year-old local man dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
