    A rugby league side is still unable to play at its stadium after a floodlight collapsed and an upcoming match has been moved to an alternative ground.

    Hull Kingston Rovers say its ground remains closed "until further notice" after the floodlight fell during high winds in November.

    In a statement, it said there was ongoing work at KCOM Craven Park to "secure the integrity of the remaining pylons".

    The club confirmed it has moved a scheduled pre-reason friendly against Widnes Vikings at 14:00 on Sunday.

    Ticket prices will be reduced for the game which will take now place at LD Nutrition Stadium, the home of Featherstone Rovers, near Pontefract.

  2. Water bottle 'refill stations' plan for Yorkpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2019

    A campaign to cut the use of plastic bottles is to be stepped up in York.

    At a meeting later the City of York Council is expected to promote places where water bottles can be filled up for free.

    As part of the Yorkshire On Tap, external initiative, shops and restaurants will be invited to become refill stations and customers will also be able to collect reward points through an app.

    Similar campaigns are already being run across North Yorkshire.

    Rob Matthews whose Chatterbox community café is a water refill station in Selby, says: "It's something that works and could and should be pushed into many more businesses."

    Jasmine Chappell works at a shop in York which is already part of the refill scheme.

    She says: "Customers bring in their own containers so we don't use another plastic one.

    "We also use paper bags instead of plastic ones which is taking off very well."

    A council report about the scheme says: "As well as reducing single-use plastics in the city, this proposal will also be encouraging people to live healthier lives by drinking more water."

    The emergency services were called to a flat in Hull after the occupier got locked inside - and they stuck a screwdriver through the letter box so they could let themselves out.

    Firefighters were called to Great Thornton Street (pictured) yesterday to assist in gaining entry to a flat due a faulty lock.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue Service says it passed a screwdriver through the letterbox to "allow them to open latch from inside" before leaving the incident.

    The Rail Accident Investigation Branch say an urgent review of a road junction should be taken following two tram crashes in Sheffield last year.

    The department has written to Sheffield City Council following the crashes on the Staniforth Road junction in the city in October and November.

    It says the council needs to look again at the safety of the junction and has issued advice about the design of tram tracks following the incidents.

    Officers were called to clear a Christmas tree from lane three of the road at Boston Spa.

    The lane was closed briefly while officers made the 'trunk' road safe again.

    Police investigating an assault in West Yorkshire have released a video of a man they'd like to identify.

    A man in his forties suffered a broken jaw and damage to his teeth in the attack in a bar in Bradford.

    Officers say it happened at Mavericks Bar in the early hours of Saturday 3 November.

    Anyone who recognizes the man in the video is being urged to contact police.

    A man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after sexually assaulting a police officer as he was being arrested.

    Luca Jelic, 29, was naked from the waist down and groped the female officer after police were called to Scotland Street, Sheffield, on 27 April.

    The officer told Sheffield Crown Court Jelic attacked her as they were on the floor and she could not move his hand.

    Jelic, of Scotland Street, was sentenced to 42 months in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault at Sheffield Crown Court.

    A major Doncaster road will be closed for about six months as a railway bridge is replaced.

    Work is expected to start tomorrow with public transport being diverted as the bridge is replaced.

    A pedestrian who was hit by a lorry in East Yorkshire on New Year's Day has died in hospital over the weekend.

    The man suffered serious injuries following a collision on the eastbound slip road of the A63, near Brough, just before 05:30 on 1 January.

    He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary (pictured) with life threatening injuries but died at lunchtime on Saturday 5 January.

    Humberside Police say his family are being supported by officers and are appealing for information about the incident.

    The 15-tonne beast was spotted coming into South Yorkshire on the A57 when it was stopped.

    A man was arrested by Nottinghamshire Police on suspicion of theft.

    Christmas might be starting to seem like a distant memory for many of us, but for millions of people around the world 7 January is the real Christmas Day.

    It's because they use the Julian calendar to work out what day Christmas should be celebrated on.

    The Julian calendar, introduced in 45 BC by Julius Caesar, is based on a solar year and established a cycle of three years of 365 days, followed by a 366-day leap year.

    It means in Yorkshire some Orthodox communities are celebrating weeks after most of the Western world.

    In West Yorkshire, the Huddersfield Ukrainian Club have held events across the weekend to celebrate, but Master of Ceremonies, Michael Drapan, says the present giving has already happened.

    Mr Drapan says: "Our presents tend to be given out on 19 December which is Saint Nicholas's day."

    A Christmas church service hosted by the Halifax Ukranian Club is taking place this morning at St Paul's Church in Halifax.

    Police are "urgently" trying to find a 44-year-old man reported missing earlier.

    Jacek Krol, from Edlington, Doncaster was reported missing this morning.

    He was last seen leaving the St Johns Road area, police said.

    Officers added they were concerned for his welfare.

    He is about 6ft, slim, with blonde hair and thought to be wearing a grey coat and blue jumper with a hood.
