There are plans to convert the disused substation on Brown Lane, near Charles Street, into Watt Bar which developers claim will be "a beating heart of Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter".

But several people living in nearby "Butcher Works" have objected.

They say the Cultural Industries Quarter Conservation Area is increasingly residential and they're worried about noise, with late night opening and outdoor seating.

Their residential building doesn't have double glazing to help soundproofing.

Officers are recommending councillors approve the plans at a meeting on Tuesday.

They say the venue would look better, that outdoor seating would provide "welcome activity" on the street, and "planning conditions" would control noise.
