    A man has suffered a broken jaw after being punched to the ground in an assault in York at the weekend.

    It happened at about 02:50 on Saturday morning, just outside the city centre on the footpath between York Cabs and the Subway shop in Blossom Street.

    Officers say the offender then left the scene.

    Police don't have a description of the assailant and want anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them.

    Four people, two from Halifax, have pleaded not guilty to membership of the banned neo-Nazi terror group National Action.

    The British organisation, founded in 2013, was proscribed under terrorism legislation three years later.

    Alice Cutter, 22, pictured left, and Mark Jones, 24, pictured right, both of Wharf Street in Halifax, as well as Garry Jack, 23, of Heathland Avenue, Birmingham, and a 17-year-old boy from Nottingham who cannot be named for legal reasons denied membership of the group between December 2016 until September 2017.

    Their pleas came during a preliminary hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Ms Cutter and the teenage boy were granted conditional bail, while the others were remanded in custody.

    Their trial is scheduled to start on 18 March.

    A North Yorkshire-based bus company was fined at least eight times in a week after being targeted for illegally parking on a busy highway, it's been revealed.

    Connexions Buses was hit in a crackdown after parking on the Stray at York Place and Knaresborough Road in Harrogate.

    Connexions boss Craig Temple said: "We have an obligation to have sufficient resources to cover our services should anything go wrong such as a breakdown, or a vehicle held up in accident or roadworks.

    "To maintain this, we have to have at least one bus parked within easy reach of Harrogate Bus Station because we are based at least 30 minutes away."

    Mr Temple added: "Where we've been parking hasn't got double yellows or any sort of parking restriction."

    North Yorkshire County Council say the issue started in November and confirmed eight tickets were issued in a one week period in January by North Yorkshire Police.

    Mr Temple claimed the tickets have since been rescinded, but a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson wasn't able to confirm this.

    Police searching for a missing 16-year-old girl from Sheffield are to hold a public meeting tonight as their investigation enters its sixth week.

    Pamela Horvathova was reported missing from her home in Darnall on Christmas Eve, having last been seen on 19 December at an event at iceSheffield.

    Appeals have been made on Slovakian TV and a Roma advisor is supporting the police investigation.

    Tonight's meeting is due to be held at Fir Vale School.

    A private company will hand out fines to people who drop litter in Hull under a new scheme due to be tried out by the city council.

    Hull City Council says the 12-month pilot run will also target dog owners who fail to clean-up after their pets.

    The council will use a private company as it doesn't have enough of its own staff to take action against people who litter.

    There are expected to be between four and six staff working around the city handing out fines of about £100, with the final figure yet to be set.

    Doug Sharp, from Hull City Council, said: "It would send out a real message. People would think twice about doing it because if they got caught doing it it would cost them."

    More than £650,000 is to be spent on improving roads in Scarborough ahead of this year's Tour de Yorkshire.

    The four-day cycle race is set to visit the borough for the fifth year running in May.

    Repairs to roads in Scarborough, Reighton and Whitby will be carried out, forming part of a £13m Scarborough Borough Council spending package on roads and junctions.

    Organisers hope that Tour de France winners Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas will take part in the event this year.

    A North Yorkshire man has appeared in court charged with possessing more than two million indecent images.

    Geoffrey Crossland, 70, also faces charges relating to the alleged possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition at his property in Padside, near Harrogate.

    He appeared at York Crown Court today where he was remanded in custody to appear again next month, with a provisional trial date set for April.

    Samples of DNA have been taken from the mother and father of a missing woman from Thailand, in the hope that will solve a 14-year-old mystery with links to South Cumbria.

    The samples will be analysed in Thailand, and the results sent to the police investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a stream in the Yorkshire Dales in 2004.

    Scientific tests suggest the woman lived in South Cumbria or North Lancashire in the years before she died.

    Last week a couple from Thailand, Joomsri Seekanya, 72, and her husband Buasa, told a news conference last week their daughter, Lamduan, married a British man in 1991 and moved to north-west England shortly after.

    They had heard nothing from her since 2004.

    South Yorkshire councils are being told to stop investing pension money in arms companies, in a campaign by councillors and activists.

    The South Yorkshire Pension Authority invested £30m of council workers' money into companies who sell defence equipment to Saudi Arabia.

    Saudi Arabia is involved in the civil war in Yemen.

    A group of Yemeni activists and councillors from Sheffield are campaigning to stop this investment.

    Green Party Councillor Douglas Johnson said: "The council should formally ask the Foreign Secretary to call for an immediate suspension of the arms trade".

    A man has suffered a fractured skull and a bleed on his brain following an attack in York.

    The victim was punched in the head by the suspect on Clifford Street at about 02:35 on 8 December last year.

    The attacker is believed to have been with two other men and a women before the incident.

    A cyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a lorry in Hull this morning.

    Police say an "unknown man" approached a group of three teens in screen eight at Cineworld in the Valley Centertainment complex at about 17:25 on 18 November.

    He punched one of the boys in the head and grabbed a second before leaving the scene.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the picture is being asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.

    Leeds has recycled almost 200,000 coffee cups since October as part of a new waste project.

    Cups were collected from cafes, workplaces, shops and street bins in the city centre and then taken to Cumbria to be recycled.

    It is estimated up to three billion coffee cups are thrown away in the UK every year.

    The initiative, which runs alongside the 'Leeds by Example' campaign was created by paper manufacturer James Cropper, Forge Recycling, charity Hubbub and Leeds City Council.

    The pilot scheme is due to continue until March.

    Police want to speak to him after a man was assaulted and robbed by two men on bikes in Harrogate earlier this month.

    The victim was walking on Dragon Parade at about 13:20 on 16 January when a man on a grey and red mountain bike rode past him, stopped and asked him the time.

    Another male on a bike then approached the victim from behind, assaulted him and removed the backpack the victim was carrying before both men made off.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the image is being asked to contact police.
