    The Church of England, which owns the building, says it doesn't have enough funds to run the hall on Newbegin and is looking for someone to lease it as a community hub.

    This means clubs will have to leave until a new agreement has been made with the new managers.

    Nicholas Harper, 50, was last seen as he left his home in Pickering, North Yorkshire, on Thursday morning.

    His black Citroen Picasso was found parked about 13 miles away, near Helmsley.

    Insp Dan Spence of North Yorkshire Police said: "We remain very concerned for Nicholas' safety."

    Jamaican pop star Sean Paul will play in Hull later this year, it has been announced.

    The singer, described as a "legend" of the Dancehall genre, will appear at the city's Bonus Arena in May as part of his UK tour.

    The venue says he is "undeniably one of the most instantly recognisable and popular voices in music".

    A man arrested in connection with the disappearance of student Libby Squire has appeared in court charged with unrelated offences.

    Pawel Relowicz, 24, of Raglan Street, Hull, appeared at Hull Magistrates' Court accused of voyeurism, outraging public decency and burglary.

    He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded in custody.

    Mr Relowicz, who spoke through a Polish interpreter, is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on 11 March.

    The dad-of-three said: "It's very difficult being a dad and trying to build a business and that's quite a unique position to be in."

    A man has been arrested after another man was stabbed in the early hours of this morning in Huddersfield.

    The incident happened at about 02:15 behind a McDonald's restaurant on Wood Street.

    A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

    Det Insp Mark Catney said: "We are treating the incident very seriously and any incident with a knife will not be tolerated on the streets of West Yorkshire.

    "We recognise that any such violent incident like this will cause concern in the community and we are working closely with our colleagues in the local neighbourhood policing team who are increasing their patrols of the area to reassure people."

    Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.

    Barriers are in place at the front and back of the building and access around the site is restricted after damage to the hospital's "external frontage".

    The hospital is asking people to think about whether they really need to go there while the work takes place.

    South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Alan Billings, says a demand by councillors for an extra 50 neighbourhood police officers next year is unlikely to be met.

    Extra money from the government and higher council tax bills has already been earmarked to fund 40 more officers.

    But the Police and Crime Panel, which oversees the work of the PCC, wanted that figure increased to 90.

    Dr Billings, who is meeting South Yorkshire's Chief Constable today, says: "It cannot be done without causing damage elsewhere in the organisation.

    "We don't want to pull police resources to bolster one place if it means it has weakened somewhere else."

    Wardens are targeting those who obstruct dropped kerbs in a month-long campaign.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council says inconsiderate drivers are causing serious problems for wheelchair users, elderly pedestrians and those with visual impairments.

    It's calling on drivers to be more considerate when parking their cars and make sure they do not block crossings where the kerb has been lowered.

    Motorists who continue to park across dropped kerbs risk receiving a £70 fixed penalty notice from the council for causing an obstruction.

    North Yorkshire could be hardest hit by the shutdown of UK horseracing, compared to other areas.

    That's according to the clerk of the course at Catterick, where today's meeting has been cancelled because of the outbreak of equine flu.

    Fiona Needham says North Yorkshire depends on the sport more than other counties.

    She says: "The horses still have to be fed and worked, jockeys are self employed, valets are self employed - there's an awful lot of people who won't be earning money while this ban is going on."

    Doncaster races were cancelled on Thursday, and all racing in Britain has been abandoned until at least Wednesday after an outbreak of equine flu.

    More than a third of babies are living below the poverty line in the UK, a leading social research group has said.

    The York-based Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) said low-paid families were struggling under a "rising tide of work poverty".

    Despite the government saying 300,000 fewer children are living in absolute poverty than in 2010, baby banks said they were seeing an increase in users.

    There are more than 100 baby banks operating across the UK, providing essentials for newborns, including nappies, wipes and cots.

    In an analysis of government data for the BBC, the JRF said in 2016-17 there were 302,838 children under the age of one living in families with a household income substantially below the UK average - its definition of poverty.

    Ms Miller, first went to a food bank when her son was just five weeks old after she "went two weeks just living on baked beans".

    She was then referred to the Tiny Hands baby bank in Pontefract when Charlie was 13-weeks-old.

    "It was absolutely amazing receiving a gift of baby stuff which was going to benefit Charlie, it was the greatest thing ever."

    An investigation has begun in Hull after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man, as she walked home in the city over the weekend.

    Detectives say it happened in West Park in the early hours of Saturday morning.

    They're looking into whether what happened could be linked to another report of sexual assault in December 2018 in the same area.

    Det Insp Nicola Gillie said: “We're keeping an open mind in respect of any link between the two cases and are following up some strong lines of enquiry."

    Officers are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage of Anlaby Road, Walton Street and the Spring Bank area between midnight and 04:00 on Saturday morning to come forward.

  20. Investigation into death of teenage kickboxer beginspublished at 08:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2019

    An inquest investigating the death of a 14-year-old boy from Sheffield, is due to begin today.

    Scott Marsden died in hospital after being taken ill at a kickboxing fight in Leeds in 2017.

    He trained at the Marsden's All Styles Kickboxing club in Hillsborough, run by members of his family, and was a pupil at Forge Valley School.

    Speaking after his death, Dale Barrowclough, the school's head teacher, said: "Scott was a very popular young man among pupils and staff alike and had a very bright sporting future ahead of him."

    Initial medical inquiries reported his death as "unexplained pending further investigation".
