It was created out of five terraced buildings built in 1840.

The row of terraced buildings was listed in 1953 as they formed an "important group" as an example of period architecture.

Plans submitted to Scarborough Borough Council include the refurbishment of all rooms and the establishment of a bike store, boot store, dog wash and small cinema on the basement floor.

Councillors have been urged to look at areas most at risk of issues related to gambling after it was announced thousands of residents are likely to be classed as "problem gamblers".

A report presented to the Corporate Scrutiny Committee says that despite concerns for residents, there are no NHS or council-funded specialist treatment services for the issue.

There are currently 83 gambling premises in Bradford, including three casinos, four bingo halls and 61 bookmakers.

Of the 83 sites, 37 are located in the most deprived areas and 65 are in a catchment in the top three most deprived parts of Bradford.

It is estimated that between 2,500 and 7,000 people in the city would be classed as problem gamblers, the report says.

The apology follows the council's earlier apology for raising the wrong flag over Sheffield Town Hall on St Patrick's Day.

The authority had said it was sorry for mistakenly flying the Welsh flag instead of the Irish flag.

In an earlier statement, the council said a "basic error" was to blame and it apologised for any offence caused, while congratulating Wales' rugby team after beating Ireland in the Six Nations.

But Chrissy Meleady, of the Irish People's Forum in Sheffield, said the reference to Ireland's loss in Cardiff was "quite an insult" and a "secondary slap".

Now, a second statement has been released apologising "for any offence caused" by the council's earlier statement.
