Hundreds of oysters are being reintroduced into the Humber estuary to try to improve water quality and enhance marine life.
The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is working with the University of Hull to establish the oyster colony at Spurn Point.
Special permission's been given to relocate shellfish from a Scottish loch.
Up until 50 years ago oysters were plentiful in the Humber, but overfishing and disease drove them to the brink of extinction.
Designed for training and demonstration, the project aims to reintroduce a native oyster population to the Humber Estuary for the first time since the 1950’s, alongside trialling bouchot mussels and tubed razor clams.
Dr Magnus Johnson of the Biology and Marine Sciences department at Hull University said: “This is a venture to bring back an iconic native species to the Humber, hopefully a start at rewilding what's historically been a heavily industrialised estuary.”

A man seen near the home of missing Claudia Lawrence remains a key person to trace 10 years on, police have said.
The chef, 35, failed to arrive for work at York University on 19 March, 2009.
The case remains unsolved and although no body has been found, North Yorkshire Police believe she was murdered.

During the original investigation CCTV images were released of a man seen near an alley behind the house both on the morning of her disappearance and the night before.
Footage shows him walking into Heworth Place, which leads to the back of her home, before reappearing a minute later, on both occasions.
Det Supt Malyn said: "The call we really want is the one that helps piece together the parts of the jigsaw we already know regarding her last movements and people she associated with and places frequented."
