    Firefighters were called to the blaze on Savile Street at about 14:00.

    Two fire crews are in attendance, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

    There's travel disruption in Leeds city centre after a bridge was closed after what's believed to be an old explosive device was found.

    A 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the shoulder at a Bradford school.

    Police were called to Thornton Grammar School in Leaventhorpe Lane at about 11:35.

    The boy's injuries are not though to be life-threatening.

    West Yorkshire Police said a boy of "a similar age" had been arrested.

    A major Leeds road has been closed after what's thought to be an old explosive device was found.

    Crown Point Road has been cordoned off after West Yorkshire Police received a call this morning about the find.

    The device possibly dates from World War One or World War Two, it's believed.

    The Army bomb squad has been called to examine it.

    It's thought to have been found by people magnet fishing in the River Aire.

    England's oldest man, who was born in Hull, celebrates his 111th birthday today.

    Bob Weighton was born in the city in 1908 and spent his working life as a marine engineer.

    He's lived through the reign of five monarchs and seen 25 Prime Ministers come and go from 10 Downing Street.

    He now lives independently in Alton, in Hampshire, and says he doesn't know what the secret to long life is, but still takes sugar in his tea.

    He spends his time making furniture and writing for a local magazine.

    Mr Weighton is celebrating his birthday by officially launching his new book of poems, to raise funds for elderly people.

    He said he asked not to receive a royal birthday card because "I do not see why the state should pay for the Queen to send out all these things. It's not a personal thing."

    Doncaster's Wool Market is officially open after a multi-million pound makeover with a series of events set to take place this weekend.

    Doncaster Council secured more than £3m to "transform the market area into a vibrant and bustling location all week long and into the evenings".

    From today until Sunday, there will be live music, street theatre, illusionists and a Ferris wheel as part of the opening weekend.

  9. Five-vehicle crash causing delays near Yorkpublished at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March 2019

    There's been a crash involving five vehicles on the A64 in North Yorkshire.

    Police say it happened near Sand Hutton, just outside York, and involved nine people.

    There are no reports of any serious injuries.

    Drivers are being warned of long delays in both directions on the road.

    A road in North Yorkshire has reopened after a car hit a house.

    It happened early this morning on the B1258 near the village of Ebberston, between Pickering and Scarborough, and involved a single vehicle.

    Officers say a silver Seat Ibiza, driven by a man in his 30s, with one male and two female passengers, hit a house.

    The two female passengers were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, the male driver and male passenger were taken to Scarborough Hospital.

    The road was closed at 05:25 to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

    No-one in the house was injured.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have been putting up signs as part of a trial.

    An event is being held in York later to "help heal the divide that Brexit has created".

    People of all ages are invited to "come together" for the Brexit surgery, which is being held at Spark:York from 18:00.

    The organisers ask attendees to "leave Leave/Remain at the door," and say all ideas from the event will be presented to the Labour MP for York Central Rachael Maskell.

  15. Toby Nye: Mother given suspended prison sentence for fraudpublished at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March 2019

    The mother of Leeds United fan Toby Nye, who admitted defrauding the fund set up to pay for his cancer treatment, has been given a suspended sentence.

    Toby, who had high-risk neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, died in January just days after his sixth birthday.

    His mother, Stacey Worsley, pleaded guilty to fraud when she appeared at Leeds Crown Court earlier this month.

    She has now been given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.

    She stole £100,000 and "abused her position" as a trustee of the fund and admitted one charge of committing fraud by false representation.

    West Yorkshire Police said the fraud did not affect Toby's medical treatment.

    The force said it had secured the return of "all of the money", which will now go to a local good cause.

    A man's been arrested over an attack on football star Gary McAllister who was targeted in the centre of Leeds.

    The Rangers assistant manager was outside a bar in Leeds city centre when he was assaulted at about 04:00 on 24 March.

    Former Leeds United captain McAllister was reportedly punched in the face and needed hospital treatment after the attack in Call Lane.

    West Yorkshire Police said a 32-year-old man arrested on Thursday night had been released under investigation.

    McAllister played for Leeds from 1990 to 1996, during which time they became champions of the former First Division.

    The youngsters from Watercliffe Meadow Primary are among those taking part in the Our Voice Matters event.

    Primary and secondary school pupils will join councillors in the council chamber to discuss various topics which matter to them.

    Staff at the McDonald's in Bridlington have started wearing bodycams because of recent anti-social behaviour in the area.

    McDonald's say employees wearing bodycams is not a company-wide policy and it has no plans to roll it out.

    But the company says staff at the branch, on the Bessingby Industrial Estate, have the option to wear one if deemed necessary.

    Flowers left next to the bench where Hull student Libby Squire was last seen are being removed today to be made into potpourri.

    The philosophy student's body was found in the Humber estuary last week, with police treating her death as a "potential homicide".

    The scented gifts will be handed out to her friends, family and anyone else attending Hull Community Church on Mother's Day.

    Volunteers have all week been donating pots and planters and jam jars for use in the tributes for the 21-year-old who went missing after a night out earlier this year.
