    Police say they are growing increasingly concerned for the safety of a woman missing from South Yorkshire since Wednesday.

    Donna Dacra, 30, who's known to frequent the Norfolk Park area of Sheffield, was last seen in the Shalesmoor/Wicker area on Wednesday morning.

    She's described as white, of slim build with black hair.

    Officers say she was last seen wearing a blue jacket with gold coloured zips.

    Anyone with any information about her wherabouts is asked to contact the South Yorkshire force.

  3. Cottingley Fairies photos sell for £50,000published at 08:32

    A series of the famous faked Cottingley Fairies photographs has sold for more than £50,000 at auction.

    The pictures were taken in 1917 by 16-year-old Elsie Wright and her nine-year-old cousin Frances Griffiths in the village of Cottingley, near Bingley.

    The girls borrowed Elsie's father's camera, and used coloured paper cut-outs and hatpins to stage their scenes, near the stream at the end of Elsie's garden.

    The hoax fooled many people including Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

    Auctioneers estimated the full 13 lots would fetch about £65,000.

    Chris Albury, auctioneer and photography specialist at Dominic Winter Auctioneers, said some of the latest batch of photographs had come from Catherine Lynch, the daughter of Frances Griffiths.

    One of the most desirable pictures, Frances and the Fairy Ring, a print from the original negative, did not sell.

    Catherine Lynch said: "There was no problem - they will go back in the safe again. I'm rather surprised, I must confess."

    A woman from East Yorkshire is calling for a change in the law requiring drivers to slow down when they pass a horse.

    A petition, calling for legislation forcing drivers to slow down to 15mph and leave a gap of two metres when passing horses, has been signed more than 140,000 times.

    On Sunday riders across the UK will head out at 11:00 to raise awareness of the campaign to force drivers to 'Make it law to pass by a horse wide and slow'.

    Ally Senior, from Brandesburton, is one of those involved, she said: "You wouldn't pass a child on a bike at 60mph so why would you pass a live animal at 60mph?"

    Police say they're concerned about a 13-year-old boy who was last seen going from Hunslet towards Leeds city centre.

    Jack Lipley is described as being about 5ft tall with short, dark hair and glasses.

    Officers say he was last seen wearing a blue jumper, blue jogging bottoms and trainers.

    Anyone with any information about his whereabouts is being asked to contact the West Yorkshire force.

    Police have named a cyclist who died after hitting a parked car in York on Sunday evening.

    Colin Marron, 51, suffered serious head injuries in the accident on Holgate Road.

    He died in Leeds General Infirmary on Monday.

    Officers are still investigating the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

    Three males, two of them teenagers, have been charged in connection with a "targeted attack" after a gun was fired on Marina Drive in Huddersfield last Saturday, police say.

    Firearms officers were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning and confirmed there had been a discharge.

    Kyle Marsden, 24, from Huddersfield, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent, he’s been remanded into custody and will next appear at Leeds Crown Court on 9 May.

    A 17-year-old male has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, affray and threatening a person in a public place with a bladed article.

    A 14-year-old male, also from Huddersfield, has been charged with affray and possession of offensive weapon.

    Both youths have been bailed to next appear at Leeds Crown court on 9 May.

    A 27-year-old and 24-year-old man also arrested remain in police custody.

    Anyone with any information about the shooting is being urged to contact police.

    Some shop owners have held a meeting with the force as part of ongoing efforts to try and tackle the problem.

    Insp Julian Hart said: "There's not one simple solution and we want to do what we can to support them into accommodation and away from causing the issues that traders are facing in the city centre."

    Michael Portillo has explained why the government made a u-turn to keep the Settle to Carlisle Railway line open 30 years ago today.

    The then transport minister Michael Portillo shocked campaigners by signing an order to keep the line open after the government planned to shut it.

    The closure plans were because British Rail was making a loss on it and the line needed major repairs.

    Speaking on the anniversary, Mr Portillo said "a brilliantly organised" campaign increased passengers travelling on the line, while an engineer found a way of repairing the Ribblehead Viaduct for "a third of the cost".

    The cameras were first used by the force in 2014 and are now being issued for neighborhood policing duties.

    The force says the devices will help when it comes to gathering evidence for court proceedings and in dealing with complaints.

    It says the cameras can act as a deterrent to crime and can also help safeguard officers from violence and abuse.

    More than £900,000 has been saved in one year by ending free home-to-school transport for special needs and disabled pupils aged 16 to 18, according to North Yorkshire County Council.

    A review by the authority has concluded the implementation of the policy has "not had a detrimental impact on the ability of young people accessing their education".

    North Yorkshire County Council approved plans in May 2018 to charge post-16 students with special educational needs or disabilities for their home-to-school transport.

    The move was made as part of a bid to save about £2m a year.

    EU citizens living in Hull have been written to as part of preparations for the UK taking part in the forthcoming European elections.

    The six-month extension to Brexit means the UK must now hold European elections in May, or leave on 1 June with or without a deal.

    Hull City Council has now has written to the 10,700 EU citizens in the city who are registered to vote in the elections in six weeks time.

    They will receive a form which they need to complete if they wish to vote in the UK as part of the constituency of the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

    EU citizens may vote only once, in one member state, and they will need to complete a registration form by Tuesday 7 May if they wish to vote in the UK.
