    Knocking Ronnie O'Sullivan out in the first round of the world snooker championship in his debut will go down as the "biggest upset in Crucible history", says James Cahill's coach.

    Twenty-three-year-old Cahill from Blackpool - the first amateur to qualify for the Crucible - held his nerve to see off the five times world champion 10-8.

    His excited coach Chris Henry who is originally from Whalley, Lancashire but now based in Belgium said his player handled the pressure “incredibly well”.

    “His win is incredible," adding it was an "impressive debut".

    The North Yorkshire company behind a pop-up Shakespearean Rose theatre in York will this summer also stage the Bard's plays in the grounds of Blenheim Palace.

    Welburn-based Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, is building a 13-sided Elizabethan-style playhouse, complete with a period village, at the Oxfordshire venue.

    The Palace's chief executive approached the company after seeing their inaugural season at Clifford's Tower in York last year.

    The company is returning to York in June to stage Hamlet, Henry V, The Tempest and Twelfth Night.

    A man has been arrested after an incident involving a gun in Leeds.

    Officers arrested a 26-year-old man in Seacroft at about 11:00 on suspicion of burglary and possession of a firearm.

    A firearms operation has now been stood down on Redmire Drive where the arrest took place, police say.

    A cordon remains in place while police continue their inquiries.

    At least three new fires have broken out in the Binn Moor and Deer Hill area near Meltham.

    A second helicopter has been deployed to fight the fires.

    It follows two blazes in Illkey and Marsden over the weekend.

    One firefighter suffered burns to his head in the Marsden Moor fire yesterday, says West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

    A pair of men died after a black BMW hit a tree on Cavendish Road.

    Hundreds of people gathered to watch the operation on Marine Drive as the coastguard and recovery vehicles pulled the car out of the water at high tide.

    Xeorelle Shipley, 22, is raising money for Nurture a Child, which is supporting her as she studies criminology with the hope of one day becoming a barrister.

    The Hull College student, who was taken into care when she was 12, will step into the ring for the first time at Walton Street Club on Friday 3 May.

    South Yorkshire Police is to get an extra £2m to help reduce knife crime during the current year.

    The money comes from the extra £100m of funding announced by policing minister Nick Hurd for the forces most affected by knife crime.

    The bulk of the extra cash is going to seven forces which, between them, accounted for six out of 10 hospital admissions for patients assaulted with a sharp object over the past three years.

    Sheffield is the area of South Yorkshire worst affected by knife crime, with police planning to use the money to "intensify operations in particular places".

    But South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings said: "We do not see anything like the situation that Londoners have to face."

    Last week, bereaved parents and anti knife-crime campaigners shut down Westminster Bridge in protest at the government's response to violent crime.

    York Minster's offering to lend its experienced stonemasons and glaziers to help rebuild Notre-Dame in Paris.

    The 850-year-old Gothic cathedral has been closed after a fire tore through its roof and destroyed its spire.

    The cathedral includes a rose window, with similarities to the one at York Minster, which was restored following a fire in 1984.

    The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, says: "I've been told by the Dean and Chapter they are more than happy to lend our stonemasons and glaziers, because they are very experienced in restoring Medieval glass.

    "So if the request comes they are going to get the best."

    Police were called to a report of a shooting in Sheffield and found damage "consistent with shotgun discharge," but those responsible are thought to still be at large.

    Officers were called to a property on Edgedale Road in the Nether Edge area in the early hours of this morning and found damage to a window.

    South Yorkshire Police say the area was searched, but the offenders could not be located.

    The force said investigations were ongoing and there would be an increased police presence in the area.

    The club says the "unacceptable acts," during the match against Hull FC, "will not be tolerated in any instance".

    It is now working with Hull FC and Humberside Police "to identify any individual responsible for bringing the club's name into disrepute" following the match at the KCOM Stadium on Friday.

    A motorcyclist has been killed in a three-vehicle crash on the North York Moors over the Easter weekend.

    Police say it happened on the A171 near Fylingdales at lunchtime on Good Friday.

    The incident involved a white Volkswagen Golf, a blue and white Suzuki SV650 motorcycle and a grey Iveco horsebox van.

    The Volkswagen Golf and Suzuki motorbike were both traveling south along the A171, while the Iveco horsebox was travelling north along the road, when the collision occurred.

    The 49-year old biker from Middlesbrough was airlifted to James Cook Hospital, but died from his injuries.

  20. Hull trawler sails up Thames ahead of royal naming ceremonypublished at 09:40 British Summer Time 23 April 2019

    A new trawler, which contains an on-board fish factory and will operate out of Hull, is sailing up the Thames today, ahead of a naming ceremony by Princess Anne.

    Fish will be able to be filleted, frozen and packaged onboard the Kirkella, which will also have a gym, cinema and en-suite berths for trawlermen.

    When in full service, it is expected to land at King George Dock in Hull every four to six weeks:
