Contaminated blood scandal: Hull MP 'delighted' at inquirypublished at 12:53 BST 30 April 2019
A Hull MP who backed the campaign for a public inquiry into the NHS contaminated blood scandal said she's "delighted" that victims "might start to see some justice" after the inquiry began taking evidence today.
Image source, Factor 8/Marc MarineSome 4,800 people with haemophilia were infected with hepatitis C or HIV in the 1970s and 1980s. More than 2,000 are thought to have died.
Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson, co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood, paid tribute the the bravery of the victims and their families.
Writing on Twitter, she said: "I am just delighted that finally we might start to see some justice for these incredibly brave individuals and their families so damaged by the NHS."
