Plan to convert the old offices in Skinner Street have been approved by Scarborough Council.

The approval comes despite a number of objections, including concerns from Whitby Evangelical Church that patrons would park in its private car park and that the hotel's cafe bar would cause disturbance to the neighbours.

Local residents were also concerned about parking, but council planning officers passed the application noting the Highways Agency had no concerns about the impact on parking or road safety in the area.

The 12-year-old victim was walking on Old Run Road at about 09:15 on 23 April when a man approached her, grabbed her by the waist and carried her towards woodland.

He fled after the girl fought back and after he was disturbed by a passer-by.

Det Insp James Entwistle said: "The circumstances of this incident are clearly very disturbing and we urgently need to identify the man shown in these images.

"The woman who intervened was able to film him on her phone as he ran off across a nearby park off Moor Road and we also have CCTV footage of him in the area which we are releasing."

The bus will leave every 20 minutes from Rawcliffe Bar and will cost £3.20, with NHS staff getting a discount on fares.

The bus, which will drop off at a specially built bus stop by the hospital entrance, is hoped to be an alternative to parking at the hospital or on nearby residential streets.

Hospital travel coordinator Dan Braidley said: "We're well aware that we do contribute to congestion in the area.

"It's not a case we can build our way out of it, we can't build another multi-storey so this was the next logical step."

  16. River safety warning after 20 deaths in five yearspublished at 09:42 British Summer Time 29 April 2019

Fire crews in West Yorkshire are urging people to take care around the water after new figures reveal 20 people have drowned in the county over the last five years.

    A life-belt

The warning comes after a police officer and another person were taken to hospital on Saturday after the officer attempted to pull the person from the River Aire in Leeds.

Area manager Chris Kirby said: "If there are people in the water that you spot having difficulty then immediately call 999 and get that assistance on its way."

  17. 'Shining knight' pet dog 'diagnoses' East Yorkshire ownerpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 29 April 2019

An East Yorkshire woman who believes her pet dog diagnosed her with a rare disease before anyone else knew she was ill has described him as a "knight in shining armour".

    Clive the cocker spaniel

Michelle Sutherland, from Thorngumbald, thinks her dog, Clive, knew she had Addison's disease - a rare disorder of the adrenal glands - before the medics did.

Initially, she said she thought she had the "world's most annoying dog" because he wouldn't stop trying to lick her mouth.

She said every time he did it she would become ill soon afterwards and eventually went to find out what was wrong.

    Michelle with her dogs

She was later diagnosed with Addison's and Michelle believes her dog had been trying to let her know her hormone levels were low.

Clive has now been trained to let her know when to take life-saving medicine by smelling changes in her adrenal levels.

    Clive the cocker spaniel

Michelle said: "I don't think I'd be here if it wasn't for Clive. He's my knight in shining armour, I love him to bits and wouldn't be without him."

  18. Aston Villa boss praises Marcelo Bielsa 'sportsmanship'published at 09:01 British Summer Time 29 April 2019

    Marcelo BielsaImage source, PA

Smith's opposite number Marcelo Bielsa (pictured) agreed to hand Villa a goal after they led through Mateusz Klich's strike.

Klich played on after players on both sides stopped for an injury to Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia. Albert Adomah rolled in the leveller straight from the restart after Smith and Bielsa had agreed on the touchline.

Smith later praised Bielsa for agreeing to allow Villa to walk the ball in from the restart.

"Full respect to Marcelo for doing that," Smith added. "I think sportsmanship has prevailed in the end."

The draw at Elland Road also confirmed Sheffield United's automatic promotion to the Premier League and sets up the prospect of Leeds and Villa meeting again in next month's play-off final.
