    Police are investigating after a woman in her 20s was seriously sexually assaulted in a Huddersfield street.

    The incident happened in Dundas Street, near the town's bus station, in the early hours of this morning.

    A police cordon is currently in place.

    West Yorkshire Police say their investigations are at an early stage and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

    A teenager from Doncaster has been given the royal seal of approval after landing a job at Buckingham Palace.

    Ellie Cadman, who studied catering at Doncaster College, will start work later this month as a Demi Chef de Partie.

    She said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be cooking for the Queen.

    "I wouldn't be where I am without the college. I'm very excited about the job," she said

    "I start the job next week and I'm nervous about being on my own, but with support I'll be fine."

    One of the first men in North Yorkshire to be convicted of downloading indecent images of children 20 years ago has been jailed for 10 years for similar offences.

    Lorry driver Richard Clark, of Fishburn Road in Whitby, sent money to the Philippines to watch live internet footage of children being sexually abused, York Crown Court heard.

    He also paid young girls he had contacted online to send him indecent images of themselves.

    The 58-year-old pleaded guilty at York Crown Court to a series of offences, including making indecent images of children.

    Speaking after yesterday's hearing Det Con Rachael Hughes, said: “It’s unimaginable someone could get enjoyment from watching children suffer in this way."

    In 1999 Clark was jailed for nine months for indecent image offences.

    Police are appealing for help to trace a man who went missing after crashing a car into a parked vehicle.

    Offices say Sam Inkles, 27, was last seen on Southey Road in Sheffield at 22:35 on Saturday after the car he was driving hit a parked vehicle.

    It is believed he may have suffered a head injury during the incident.

    The South Yorkshire force says anyone who has seen him or knows where he is should get in touch.

    Plans to ban people having barbecues on moorland in West Yorkshire to prevent fires are due to go before Calderdale Council later.

    A number of recent fires have destroyed large swathes of land, including one on Marsden Moor, which was started by a £2 disposable barbecue.

    A ban's already in place in Kirklees and another's being considered for Ilkley Moor.

    Today's decision, which will go before cabinet this evening, will affect land in Calderdale.

    Traders say extra police officers need to be permanently based in Hull city centre to deal with ongoing anti-social behaviour issues.

    Hull BID (Business Improvement District) say businesses and shoppers are weary of problems caused by street drinkers and drug users.

    Executive Director, Kathryn Shilito, says: "What we're looking for is a definitive answer in terms of how many more officers we will get in Hull city centre."

    Humberside Police says four police constables work in the city centre every day along with a Neighbourhood Team of PCSOs.

    The force says in the past 12 months it's made more than 300 arrests, issued more than 600 dispersal orders and conducted 1,000 stop and searches, as part of Operation Ignition, set up to tackle anti-social behaviour.

    Investigations are continuing this morning into a fire at a derelict factory in North Yorkshire.

    The blaze broke out at the former Trelleborg factory, in Halfpenny Lane, Knaresborough, yesterday afternoon, causing problems for residents returning home from work in the area.

    Fire investigators and crime scene officers from North Yorkshire Police are due on site this morning.

    An inquest into the death of North Yorkshire teenager Leah Heyes is due to be opened later.

    Leah, who was 15, died after collapsing in a Northallerton car park on 11 May. Police believe she had taken MDMA, the chemical name for the drug ecstasy, before her death.

    Two teenagers arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs have been released under investigation.

    The inquest is being held in Leah's home town, Northallerton, where dozens of teenagers turned out to a vigil in her memory after her death last month.

    A primary school is stopping children from repeatedly using the word "like" in conversation due to its overuse.

    Teachers at Copthorne Primary School in Bradford, West Yorkshire, are telling pupils to "park" filler words and consider what they want to convey.

    The move, first reported in the Times,, external has also seen children encouraged to avoid single-word replies to questions.

    It is to "enrich their language and allow them to express themselves with clarity", the head teacher said.

    During lessons, if a child uses a sentence "peppered with likes" they are encouraged to work with a partner for five minutes to think about how else they could phrase the sentence.

    A classroom wall includes alternative words to help widen vocabulary, the school said.

    A serious case review will be held into the "tragic" death of a three-year-old boy.

    Riley Siswick was found dead at his home in Huddersfield in 2016 and his mother's boyfriend Kyle Campbell, 27, was later convicted of his murder and jailed for life.

    Riley's mother Kayleigh Siswick was also convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child and was jailed for seven years.

    The review will examine the extent of contact between the boy's family and social services before his death.

    Kirklees Council said: "This tragic case is the subject of a serious case review, commissioned by the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board.

    "It would not be appropriate for us to comment at this time however the review will be published later this year."

    Crews from North Yorkshire Fire service are working to extinguish a fire at former industrial premises in Knaresborough.

    Police have repeated calls asking residents in the area to ensure all doors and windows are closed.

    Waste from producing a famous North Yorkshire cheese will be used to help power hundreds of homes.

    The Wensleydale Creamery, in Hawes, has signed a deal to supply whey from its factory to a biogas plant, where it will be broken down to produce gas in a process called anaerobic digestion.

    The company said the deal with Iona Capital, which owns the biogas plant in Leeming, North Yorkshire, would produce about 10,000 MWh of thermal power - enough energy to heat 800 homes.
