    A teenager motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a crash on the A19 in North Yorkshire yesterday and police are appealing for dashcam footage.

    The 17-year-old was riding a black Piaggio motorcycle when he collided with a red Ford Fiesta between Deighton and Crockey Hill at about 13:45.

    An off-duty officer was one of the first to arrive at the scene and provided medical care until the emergency services arrived.

    The motorcyclist was taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he is continuing to receive treatment for his injuries.

    The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene and did not re-open until 16:00.

    A South Yorkshire bus company, which will see hundreds of drivers go on strike later this month, says it's "extremely disappointed" it couldn't find a way to avoid the walkout.

    The Unite union said 900 drivers employed by First South Yorkshire are due to stage two 24-hour walkouts on 27 July and 3 August.

    It's after talks aimed at resolving a pay dispute broke down.

    "We’re extremely disappointed that we have been unable to agree a way forward to avoid strike action", First South Yorkshire's managing director Garry Birmingham said.

    “Over the next few days we will be working hard to finalise our contingency plans and establish what level of service we will be able to provide for our customers.”

    Police officers investigating the death of a man in Bradford are trying to find a car as another man is arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Mohammed Feazan Ayaz, 20, was found naked in Saffron Drive in Bradford on 1 July.

    Six Bradford men have been in court charged with murder.

    A 25-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

    West Yorkshire Police are now looking for a grey-coloured Ford S-Max which was last seen in the Denholme area on 1 July.

    Anybody who saw the vehicle, with a registration plate of EO56 HHE, is asked to get in touch with police.

    Yorkshire's Jack Laugher has claimed Britain's third medal of the 2019 World Championships with 3m springboard bronze and would have secured gold but for a huge error on his last dive.

    Laugher, 24, led from the first round and held off the challenge of world champion Siyi Xie and Olympic champion Yuan Cao until his final routine.

    The Harrogate diver was on course to challenge the world record total of 572.90 after scoring over 100 in the fourth and fifth rounds, but scored just 30.60 in the sixth round to total 504.55.

    Xie (545.45) retained his title, with Cao (504.55) taking silver.

  10. Climate protesters to stage 'die-in' in Leedspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Environmental campaigners are planning to march through Leeds to stage what they're calling a "die-in" on one of the city's busiest pedestrianised streets.

    It's part of a weeklong protest over climate change, organised by the group Extinction Rebellion.

    The "die-in" due to take place on Briggate comes as protestors have been blockading Victoria bridge in the city since Monday.

    They say they want the country to have net-zero carbon emmissions in six years - 25 years earlier than the Government has committed to.

    Extinction Rebellion says anyone angered by its protests should "find out more about the severity of the ecological and climate crisis".

    Strikes by hundreds of bus drivers are to go ahead after talks aimed at resolving a pay dispute broke down.

    Regional officer Phil Bown said: "We held talks with the management today to see if there was scope for a decent improvement in the offer, after our members overwhelmingly rejected it in a consultative ballot.

    "Unfortunately, the company came up with a pitiful new offer that could be measured in a few pence an hour following on from the one our members rejected this week.

    Unite say services run by the company in Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham, as well as part of the Derbyshire Dales, will "grind to a halt" due to the strikes.

    Police are appealing for help to find a 75-year-old woman who went missing earlier today.

    Janet Robinson was last seen leaving a hairdressers of Agnes Road, in Barnsley, at about 09:40.

    She had been due to meet her husband at 10:30 at the Morrisons Store in the town centre but did not arrive.

    Mrs Robinson, who has dementia, is described as being 5ft 2in tall with blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a cream jacket, black jeans, black shoes and carrying a brown shoulder bag.

    Police have issued a CCTV image of her taken earlier today (above right).

  15. Watch: Van Gogh experience makes UK debut in Yorkpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    The UK premiere of an immersive 360-degree projection display inspired by the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh has arrived in York.

    More than 200 animated paintings are being projected onto walls, floors and ceilings of St Mary's Church, in Castlegate, allowing people to "step inside" the artist's work.

    The 35-minute projection tells the story of the Dutch 19th Century post-impressionist artist and his pieces.

    York is the third city to host the event after runs in Naples and Brussels:

    A peace garden in memory of a-six-year-old boy who was shot dead by his great-grandfather has opened at his school in Hull.

    Stanley Metcalf died in hospital after he was shot in the abdomen by a pellet on 26 July.

    The garden was partly designed by his friends at St Mary’s Queen of Matyrs.

    It features a picture of Stanley along with the words, "When it rains, look for rainbows, when it's dark, look for stars".

    Albert Grannon, 78, of Church Lane, Sproatley, was jailed for three years at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting manslaughter and possessing an air rifle without holding a firearms certificate.

    A lorry which was pursued through three counties and drove on the wrong side of the motorway left a "trail of destruction", police say.

    The LGV was spotted on the M1 in in Derbyshire travelling towards Leeds late last night.

    It was then seen driving north on the southbound carriageway of the M1 near Durkar before leaving the motorway at junction 41.

    The vehicle was eventually brought to a stop when police managed to deflate its tyres and it crashed into a tree on Belle Isle Road, Middleton.

    The lorry left "a trail of destruction of road signs and gouges in the tarmac" as it drove through Leeds, South Yorkshire Police said.

    The force said the driver of the vehicle has bee arrested.

    Full-size animatronic dinosaurs have arrived in Leeds ahead of a Jurassic trail being installed in the city.

    The animals have been unpacked from shipping containers following their journey from China.

    It's part of a free trail through the city starting on 27 July.

    Raptors, a T-Rex and a Carnotaurus are all part of the event which will run until September.

    A woman from Barnsley is asking for people to donate their kidneys as she looks to end her reliance on dialysis.

    Victoria Firth suffered renal failure in 2004 and relies on dialysis four times a week to keep her alive.

    She's asked people on Facebook to consider donating one of their two kidneys to help.

    "Somebody on Facebook will be a perfect match and it'll just give me a new lease of life", she said.
