    A 13-year-old girl with severe mental health issues is being looked after on a general children’s ward in Hull due to a lack of places in specialist psychiatric units, it's emerged.

    The girl’s mother claimed a security guard has been stationed on the ward at Hull Royal Infirmary to prevent her daughter from running away.

    She said the nurses on the ward were “kind and caring”, but staff had admitted they were frustrated at not having “the specific training or understanding to meet our daughter’s needs”.

    “They’ve admitted they are not able to manage our daughter’s intense episodes of distress," she added.

    In a statement, NHS North East and Yorkshire said: "We continue to deliver on our commitments to expand mental health services for children and young people, with record investment.

    "An additional 13 mental health beds are due to open in the Humber area later this year in a new facility."

    A York councillor who lost his position over alleged “standards issues” has been cleared of wrongdoing after a £98,000 council investigation.

    Councillor Nigel Ayre was suspended from his role on City of York Council’s executive in 2017.

    An allegation was made against him regarding a “standards issue raised during the investigation of a whistleblowing complaint”, according to a report prepared for a council meeting.

    But he was found not to have breached the code of standards at a meeting of the council’s joint standards committee on Wednesday.

    Councillor Ayre said the two-year investigation has been one of the “most stressful and emotionally draining experiences of my life”.

    City of York Council has been approached for a comment.

    The animals were previously based at Cudworth police station, but they've now moved to their new home at Ring Farm in Barnsley.

    In recent years, the mounted section's base in Barnsley was closed due to a merger with West Yorkshire Police, but that move was later reversed.

    A man whose body was found with multiple injuries in Sheffield earlier this week has been named as Nadeem Qureshi.

    Mr Qureshi's body was found in Deepcar at about 19:15 on Wednesday on Station Road.

    The 40-year-old died of multiple injuries, a post-mortem examination has found.

    His family is being supported by specialist officers, South Yorkshire Police say.

    Two men, aged 30 and 48 years old, who were both arrested on suspicion of murder remain in police custody.

    Motorcycle racing is set to return to Oliver's Mount in Scarborough this weekend after an almost two-year hiatus.

    In September 2017, two serious crashes at the venue injured 12 people on one day, leading to fears for safety for riders and spectators.

    In 2018 all race meetings were cancelled, but this Saturday the motorbikes are back with new owners and improved safety barriers.

    Mick Grant, from Oliver's Mount Racing, said: "Anything you do in this life, you're going to have freak accidents.

    "What we're trying to do is minimise that chance. If we hadn't got involved, [racing here] wouldn't have happened again."

    East Midlands Trains (EMT) has been warning people against travelling because of the disruption caused by overhead power lines.

    An issue with cables in the Belsize Tunnel area near Camden is to blame, with services being disrupted since Thursday.

    An emergency timetable is in operation and trains won't be back to normal until Monday, according to EMT.

    The company "strongly urges" customers to not travel on the route for the next three days.

    Her death was being treated as "a potential homicide".

    A man from County Durham has been seriously hurt after hitting his head while jumping into a river in North Yorkshire.

    Emergency crews, including firefighters, ambulance staff and volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue team, were called to The Falls in Richmond (pictured) at about 13:20 yesterday.

    A 28-year-old man was subsequently taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which aren't believed to be life-threatening.

    Insp Mark Gee, from North Yorkshire Police, said the River Swale was fast-flowing due to water from a recent storm running down the valley.

    "I'd urge people to be sensible in the sun and water during the current hot weather," he said.

    "There is still a lot of water in the River Swale following the recent downpours and the river can be a dangerous place."
