The service says last year it experienced a "huge spike" in grass and tree fires during July and August due to "tinderbox" conditions.

Its crews are hoping that people will follow these bits of advice in a bid to cut the risk:

    • Keep gardens and streets free of loose rubbish, which can be a target for arsonists
    • Be careful with disposable barbecues and not having bonfires when it's warm and the ground is dry
    • Don't leave wheelie bins out overnight
    • Dispose of cigarettes carefully - "Don't chuck them into fields, parks, bushes or trees"
    • Ensure kids aren't out setting fires - "It could scar them for life or land them in prison"

Northallerton's Friarage Hospital's A&E department was "temporarily" closed in March due to staff shortages.

The Save Friarage Hospital group was granted permission to challenge the decision in June.

The group has dropped its action after health bosses offered a full public consultation on the changes.

Helen Smith, from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, represents the group and said: "It is now vital that the Clinical Commissioning Group carries out a full and transparent consultation, with an open mind on all the options including reinstating the A&E and other services at the Friarage, allowing residents to have the opportunity to fully take part in the decision making process."

The consultation is expected to begin in September.
