    A man who died after being found seriously injured in a Leeds street has been named as 21-year-old Tcherno Ly.

    Mr Ly was found with stab wounds in Chapeltown Road, Chapeltown, at about 22:00 on Sunday and he was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

    An 18-year-old man from Leeds who had been found with stab wounds nearby in Button Hill at about the same time was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains under arrest in hospital, police say.

    His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

    A 22-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

    Police continue to appeal for witnesses, especially if anyone was seen with "bloodstained clothing".

  2. Man arrested for drink driving after M6 crashpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 28 August 2019

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving after a crash which closed a carriageway of the M6 in Cumbria.

    The police were called to the northbound carriageway between junction 38 at Tebay and 39 at Shap at 15:30 yesterday afternoon.

    The 29-year old man from Bradford who was arrested was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with minor injuries.

    The driver of a Mercedes and his passenger were not injured.

    Police in Hull are trying to find a teenage girl who went missing last night.

    Sophie Newton, 16, was last seen at about 20:00 in the Endike Lane area of Hull.

    Sophie is described as being 5ft 4ins tall, of slim build with blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a green bomber jacket and black trousers.

    Anybody who knows where Sophie might be is asked to get in touch with police.

    The new chief executive of Scarborough Council takes up his role today.

    Michael Greene (pictured) replaces Jim Dillon who retired after 13 years at the helm in June.

    Mr Greene was recommended for the £112,000 a year role as chief executive earlier this year.

    Speaking when his successful application was announced, he said: “I'm delighted to be recommended as the next chief executive.

    “It is a fabulous area with a great reputation."

    People in Cumbria are recycling more of their rubbish, according to provisional figures from the county council, external.

    But Cumbria is still lagging behind other parts of the country, with just under half of household rubbish being recycled here.

    The area with the highest rate in England is the East Riding of Yorkshire, where nearly two thirds or household waste is recycled.

    A recycling firm in the German city of Flensburg, which is twinned with Carlisle, has a recycling rate of more than two thirds.

    The first amateur baker to exit The Great British Bake Off has said the show "wasn't a piece of cake at all".

    Support worker Dan, 33, from Rotherham, was axed at the end of the first episode of the new series after serving up a raw fruit cake to judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

    Afterwards he said: "I love fruit cake and it hasn't put me off making one, but next time I won't make it in three hours.

    He had better luck in the showstopper challenge, whipping up a pirate island cake complete with dry ice waterfall as the birthday cake of his childhood dreams, but he knew his fate was already sealed.

    He said: "It's the nature of the show when something goes wrong on that particular week, you've had it, and I understand how the show works and I felt it was the right decision that I should go."

    Firefighters had to rescue a woman from a tree in Harrogate after she became stuck more than 30ft (10m) up in the air.

    Fire crew were called to Cornwall Road at about 19:00 on Tuesday.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the woman was rescued using a triple extension ladder.

    Police officers are searching for a man in connection with an alleged road rage attack in Doncaster.

    It's reported that a man was driving along Watch House Lane before turning left onto York Road when another man allegedly got out of a black Mazda and attacked him.

    The victim suffered facial injuries.

    The car was found by police later that day but officers are hoping to speak to the man pictured above in connection with the incident.

    A 12-year-old boy from Hull who died at a campsite in France was swimming with his brother when he drowned, police have said.

    The boy was on a family holiday at La Croix du Vieux Pont, in the Berny Riviere area - about 65 miles (105km) north-east of Paris - when he died on Thursday afternoon.

    The local police said the brother went to find a lifeguard when the boy disappeared from view under the water.

    Officers confirmed their inquiry into the boy's death was still ongoing.

    A lifeguard recovered the 12-year-old from the water but he died later in hospital, a spokeswoman said.

    An initial appeal for witnesses has been unsuccessful, she added.

    A 16-year-old boy has had to have his thumb reattached after suffering injuries to his hand in incident with a firework in West Yorkshire.

    Thomas McMahon underwent 14 hours of surgery and will need further skin grafts following the incident, which happened on Green Road in Shipley at about 18:15 on 24 August.

    Thomas's stepmother, Sarah McMahon says: "Thomas's thumb was hanging off his hand.

    "He could have lost his thumb were it not for the quick actions of a lady on the scene who strapped it up to keep it secure.

    "He's gone through a lot since Saturday over a reckless and scary situation, resulting in him having to have life-changing surgery."

    West Yorkshire Police said: “Inquiries are continuing into this incident which is reported to have involved two males in dark clothing and a lit firework."

    British number one Kyle Edmund made a first-round exit from the US Open for a second successive year after losing a five-set marathon to Pablo Andujar.

    Edmund, from Beverley, fought back from behind to take a fluctuating match into a decider.

    But his game deserted him in the final set as Spaniard Andujar won 3-6 7-6 (7-1) 7-5 5-7 6-2 in four hours 21 minutes - the longest match at this year's tournament so far.

    Johanna Konta and Dan Evans are now the only Britons left in the singles.

    Edmund has not progressed past the third round at a Grand Slam since reaching the Australian Open semi-finals in 2017, losing in the first round in three of the past five majors.

    A five-year-old boy has climbed one of Yorkshire's highest peaks dressed in his flying suit as a "thank you" to the Red Arrows for saluting him.

    Jacob Newson, from Leeds, met the Royal Air Force's aerobatic crew earlier this month. His father Andrew, 51, said it had made his son's "dream come true".

    The youngster then decided to take on the challenge of walking up Pen-y-Ghent in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund.

    Jacob said: "I can't believe I climbed to the top. It was super, super hard."

    "It was absolutely amazing," said Mr Newsom, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service crew member.

    "He did it all on his own and I didn't even have to carry him, which was brilliant."

    The Red Arrows fan has raised more than £5,500, which his father said was "overwhelming" as the target was initially set up to raise £500.
