    A truck driver who had to be rescued from a North Yorkshire river has blamed his sat nav for the incident.

    Two men and a dog had to be helped from the vehicle after it became stuck in the River Skell in Ripon while trying to cross the swollen river at the Firs Avenue ford.

    Station Manager Andy Creasey, from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, said when he had asked the driver why he attempted to cross the river he said "my sat nav said this way".

    Police investigating the disappearance of a woman from North Yorkshire have charged a man with her murder.

    Dale Tarbox, 39, of Station Road, Doncaster, appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court today accused of the murder of 51-year-old Susan Howells.

    She was last seen at her home in Harrogate in February.

    Mr Tarbox was remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

    A 63-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with Miss Howells’ disappearance has been released on bail.

    The Football Association is investigating an allegation of racial discrimination during Saturday's Championship game between Charlton Athletic and Leeds United.

    It is understood the incident involved Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and Charlton forward Jonathan Leko (pictured).

    Referee John Brooks is understood to have included the allegation in his match report after Charlton's 1-0 win.

    The FA will now speak to both clubs and the players allegedly involved.

    Train operators are warning passengers to expect delays following the closure of Bradway Tunnel between Sheffield and Dronfield in Derbyshire.

    The mile-long tunnel is on the Midland Mainline route from Sheffield to London, south of Dore.

    Services are currently suspended.

    Chris Jeffery, head teacher of Bootham School, in North Yorkshire, who chairs the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference's wellbeing working group, said social media and mobile technology were now an "inescapable aspect of the landscape of the lives of young people".

    "Given the nature of that technology, trends are fast-moving and it is crucial that educators and parents have regular insights into how young people are using their devices," he said.

    The fire service say people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds are underrepresented in the profession both locally and across the country.

    Among those to feature in exhibition is Stephen Moss (above), who is believed to be the first black firefighter to join the South Yorkshire service when he signed up in 1977.

    The exhibition features portraits of 10 members of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, both frontline firefighters and their support team.
