    Hull City Council is launching a multi-million pound grant scheme, which private businesses and landlords can use to help redevelop the Whitefriargate area.

    It's part of the the Humber High Street Challenge Fund, which will also see the Clock Tower area of Goole get some money for investment.

    The grants are for businesses who want to refurbish and convert unused floor space back into usable shops, restaurants or other businesses.

    More trains were late coming into Doncaster station over the past 12 weeks than those which turned up time, new figures show.

    In total, 45% of trains at Doncaster and Rotherham stations were on time, according to a report by transport bosses from both Doncaster and Rotherham councils.

    A further 8% of services at Doncaster station were at least 10 minutes late and 3% of services were cancelled entirely, the report says.

  5. False alarms spark new approach to auto fire call-outspublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 1 October 2019

    Fire crews across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire will no longer be called out straight away if automatic alarms go off at businesses during the day, it's been confirmed.

    Firefighters will now only respond immediately if the alert is backed up by a phone call.

    The new policy affects buildings where no-one would be sleeping during the working day, so it will affect premises such as offices and shops.

    Hospitals, hotels and residential homes are all exempt from the new policy, the fire service says.

    Fire crews are called out to about 1,400 false alarms every year, according to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

    A Bradford cricket club is to be the base for a brand new women's league being launched in the city.

    The Inspirational Women's Charity Cricket league will operate out of Salem Athletic Cricket Club.

    Fatima Patel founded the league and has also been named the club's new president as part of the partnership.

    She said: "We've been able to show there are opportunities and there are platforms for women to come into comfortable spaces and be able to play."

    A parked car was shot at outside a Sheffield shop last night.

    It's reported that just after 20:10, a silver/grey estate car was damaged in the shooting outside the Co-Op store on Chapel Street in Woodhouse.

    Three men then got into the car and drove away, driving the wrong way down a one-way street, according to police.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

    Police are trying to find two missing East Yorkshire 13-year-olds who were last seen yesterday.

    The last confirmed sighting of Joshua Soukup and Faith Doherty was in Anlaby at about 13:30 on Monday.

    Both are 5ft tall, of stocky build and wearing black sweatshirts with a green school logo, black jeans and black shoes.

    There is also warning in place along the River Ouse following some flooding in York yesterday (above).

    Meanwhile, "overtopping" is expected in Bridlington, Hornsea and Whitby, where it's thought the sea could breach harbour walls.

    Light rain is expected throughout the day across Yorkshire, with flood warnings being expected to be removed, external in the next 24 hours.

    Staff at Bradford's council-run museums and libraries have voted in favour of strike action in a row over cuts to services.

    Unite the union, which represents about 50 library and museum employees in the city, say Bradford Council is planning to cut funding for the services by 65%.

    Unite regional officer Mark Martin said “The council’s current hardline attitude is in sharp contrast to its aspiration to be UK City of Culture 2025.

    “Libraries and museums are an integral part of the city’s social, cultural and educational fabric – and we believe that they are worth fighting for.”

    He said a strike date is set to be announced on Wednesday.

    Flood warnings are in place for parts of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire with flooding expected this evening and tomorrow.

    The Environment Agency is warning that flooding is expected, external along the Humber at Hessle Haven and along the east coast at Bridlington, Hornsea, Easington and Kilnsea.

    In North Lincolnshire, river levels have also risen at the Keadby river gauge as a result of high spring tides and high river levels.

    A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the neck at a music festival in Sheffield.

    The 25-year-old man was stabbed at the Fire in the Park event at the Ponderosa at about 22:00 on Saturday.

    South Yorkshire Police said his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

    Thieves have stolen lead from five village churches in the last month, Humbersdie Police say.

    In the latest incident, lead was stripped from the roof of St Peter’s, in Wawne, (pictured above)over the weekend, causing damage to the building that will costs thousands of pounds to repair

    Police said the thieves would have needed a "large truck" to carry the metal way.

    Churches in Langtoft, Hutton Cranswick, Lockington and Sigglesthorne, as awell as a bank in Driffield, have all been targeted since 25 August.

    The force has appealed for anyone with any information about the thefts to come forward.
