Members of the Unite union voted to take industrial action last month.

This is the first two-day strike, with a three-day strike to follow from 5 November, a four-day stoppage from 18 November and a five-day strike from 2 December.

Unite say Bradford Council's "hardline attitude" is in "sharp contrast" with its bid to be UK City of Culture 2025.

Bradford Council said it was "disappointed" Unite members had voted for strike action and will try to keep as many services open as possible.

CycleSheffield joined with the council to stop vehicles driving on Division Street for six hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Dexter Johnstone, from the group, said it was good to see children enjoying the car-free streets.

"We saw a lot of kids and other people on the streets spending time together. There were a lot of people in the cafes and bars too - so hopefully businesses felt the benefits of the extra footfall."

He added that the group and council were asking for feedback on what people made to the trial.

If successful, more roads could benefit from temporary closures.
