    A man has been jailed for raping a teenage girl who was groomed and abused by a group of men in Huddersfield.

    Banaris Hussain, 36, of Crosland Moor, was sentenced to 10 years after being found guilty at Leeds Crown Court.

    Five men in the same trial were sentenced on Friday over the "wicked abuse" of girls aged between 12 and 16.

    A total of 27 men have now been convicted over sexual exploitation in the town. As he was led away, Hussain said it was a "miscarriage of justice".

    A woman who died after being found unconscious in a street in Halifax at the weekend has been named by police as 26-year-old Levi Ogden, from Elland.

    Ms Ogden was pronounced dead in hospital after being found seriously injured on Silver Street at about 02:15 on Sunday morning.

    A 26-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody, police say.

    Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about what happened to get in touch.

    Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a block of flats in Hull.

    Five engines and an aerial appliance are at the 12-storey building in Torpoint Drive, off Anlaby Road South.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue crews were called out at about 10:20 this morning.

    Roads around the scene have been closed to traffic.

    There are no reports of any casualties.

    The M621 had been closed clockwise at junction 3 since about 05:00 but was reopened a short time ago.

    Highways England is, however, warning motorists to expect delays

    West Yorkshire Police said a man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition following the collision.

    Hull's new £12m footbridge over the A63 been installed over the weekend.

    The footbridge, which was originally due to open in 2017, links the city’s marina with the southern end of Princes Dock.

    However, the 60m bridge, which weighs about 150 tonnes, won't open to the public until spring next year.

    A 75-year-old pedestrian has died after two vehicles were involved in a collision near Doncaster.

    A Land Rover Discovery collided with a Ford Transit van on Melton Road in Sprotbrough at about 16:00 on Saturday. Police believe the Land Rover then hit the male passerby.

    The 29-year-old driver of the Land Rover was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit. The man remains in police custody.

    South Yorkshire Police said members of the public had helped the injured pedestrian but he had died at the scene.

    He has not been named and his family are being supported, officers added.

    Opponents of the HS2 high-speed railway linking London and the north of England say the government's review of the project is set to be a whitewash.

    The deputy chair of the HS2 review panel, Labour peer Lord Berkeley, says he has been given no opportunity to influence the final report.

    He is a vocal critic of the project.

    The government says it has been clear no panel member would have a veto, and that it would be inappropriate to pre-empt the recommendations of the review.

    Drivers are being warned to expect a major route into Leeds to be closed all morning following a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle.

    The M621 is closed at junction 3 following the incident, which happened at about 05:00.

    West Yorkshire Police said the pedestrian is in a "critical condition" in hospital as a result of the collision.

    Highways England says the road is likely to remain closed clockwise "for several more hours" and has reported delays of up to 45 minutes.

    Baby goods retailer Mothercare has said it plans to call in administrators to the troubled firm's UK business, putting 2,500 jobs at risk.

    Mothercare said, external its 79 UK stores, including sites in York, Leeds, Wakefield, Hull, Huddersfield and at Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre, were "not capable of returning to a level of structural profitability and returns that are sustainable for the group".

    "Furthermore, the company is unable to continue to satisfy the ongoing cash needs of Mothercare UK," it added.

    It said stores would continue to trade as normal for the time being.

    Also affected is Mothercare Business Services Limited (MBS), which provides certain services to Mothercare UK.

    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on the M621 in Leeds this morning.

    West Yorkshire Police said the pedestrian was hit by the vehicle at about 05:00.

    The force said the man is in a "critical condition".

    No further details of the incident have been released.

    The road is currently closed clockwise at junction 3 and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

    A pedestrian who died when he and another man were hit by a car outside a racecourse has been named by police.

    Adrian Scott, 65, was killed when he and a 52-year-old man were hit by a silver Mercedes C220 just after the end of Saturday's race meeting at Wetherby at about 17:00.

    The second man, who has not been named, remains in a critical condition.

    In a statement Mr Scott's family said: “Adrian was a well-loved father, father-in-law, grandad, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all."

    The family said they also wanted to thank the emergency services and those who helped at the scene, adding that "our thoughts and well wishes go out" to the injured man and his family.

    The 40-year-old Mercedes driver was was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released while inquiries continue.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the crash, on the B1224 York Road, to contact them.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman found unconscious in a West Yorkshire street died.

    The 26-year-old woman had been injured in a fight in Silver Street, Halifax, West Yorkshire, at about 02:15 on Sunday morning.

    She was taken to hospital and died a short time later. Her cause of death is not yet known.

    Officers said the 26-year-old arrested man was in custody and a cordon was in place on Silver Street for forensic examinations to be carried out.
