    Seven flood warnings have been issued in Yorkshire as a result of heavy rain across the region.

    The Environment Agency says flooding is expected in the following areas:

    It said river levels in the areas have risen "rapidly" and "flooding of property and roads and farmland is expected".

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across Yorkshire and has issued a separate amber warning for rain across parts of South and West Yorkshire.

    A couple visiting East Yorkshire have been falsely accused of trying to meet a child, during a sting filmed by so-called paedophile hunters and live-streamed to an audience of thousands on Facebook.

    Jordan and Ben, from West Sussex, had been visiting Jordan's sister in Hull when they were confronted by a number of people outside her home.

    The pair received homophobic abuse, before police came to arrest them. Yorkshire Child Protectors has since apologised for what happened.

    Jordan and Ben, who did not want to give their surnames for fear of reprisals, said they set off for Hull on Monday.

    Humberside Police declined to comment on their arrests.

    The Yorkshire Evening Post has issued a rallying cry to politicians warning them to 'Ignore Leeds at your peril' and urging the next government to transform the lives of people living in the north of England.

  4. Disruption to rail services after flooding at Kivetonpublished at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    Rail passengers are being warned of delays and possible cancellations to services through Kiveton Park due to flooding.

    Northern say all lines through the station are closed affecting trains between Sheffield and Gainsborough Central and Sheffield and Lincoln Central.

    The disruption is expected to continue until about 15:00.

    A 17-year-old boy has been charged with robbery after an elderly woman had her handbag stolen in Sheffield.

    The 80-year-old woman was walking along Little Norton Lane, in the Meadowhead area, on 30 October, when she was approached by a male who asking her for money.

    The male then grabbed her handbag and ran off, knocking the woman to the ground in the process.

    South Yorkshire Police said a 17-year-old boy charged in connection with the incident is due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court later today.

    Uncapped Leeds wing Ash Handley has been called up to the Great Britain squad for the final tour game in Papua New Guinea.

    The 23-year-old comes in as cover for Oliver Gildart and Ryan Hall who have returned home after suffering injuries in the Lions' first two matches.

    Handley, who scored 22 tries for Rhinos last term, will not play in the second Test against New Zealand on Saturday.

    But he will be available for the Test with Papua New Guinea on November 16.

    Great Britain tour manager Jamie Peacock said: "It makes sense for Ash to come out and join us in Papua New Guinea.

    The merger of three North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), which deliver some of the county's health services, has been given the go-ahead by the NHS.

    The merger involves CCGs in Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby, Harrogate and Rural District and Scarborough and Ryedale.

    The trio will operate as the North Yorkshire CCG from April next year.

    Amanda Bloor, accountable officer for the three CCGs, said: "A single commissioning voice will make it easier to reduce some health inequalities we see across the county and respond consistently to the needs of our population.”

    An application to demolish a landmark Hull building has been refused.

    A developer wants to build 40 flats and a restaurant on the site of the derelict Lord Line trawler office in the city's former St Andrews Dock.

    The plan was rejected by the city council's after planning officers said the proposals "did not meet required standards for character".

    Councillors approved plans to refurbish part of an adjacent Grade II-listed hydraulic tower and pump house.

    The four-storey office, built in 1949, was the headquarters of the Lord Line trawling company and is on the council's list, external of historically significant buildings.

    Two weather warnings for rain have been issued by the Met Office as heavy downpours are set to hit the county.

    Both Yellow and Amber warnings have been issued , externalwith the possibility the weather could cause disruption to travel, including delays, road and rail closures, as well as power cuts and flooding.

    Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said, “With a weather front stalling over the north of England there will be a period of heavy and sustained rainfall through Thursday.

    "With the possibility of up to 100mm of rain falling on already saturated ground there could be some significant disruption."

  13. Police will send 'clear message' over Harehills disorderpublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2019

    "Firm action" has been promised by West Yorkshire Police after disturbances in Leeds last night which saw several police officers hurt.

    Six officers were hurt and 15 people, including an 11-year-old boy, were arrested following disorder in Harehills, which broke out at about 20:00.

    Police in riot gear tackled youths who were throwing fireworks and setting fire to bins.

    “The behaviour witnessed last night was completely unacceptable and I know that all members of the Harehills community are as appalled as we are at what occurred," said Ch Supt Steve Cotter.

    “We are now carrying out a full and comprehensive investigation to identify those involved in these offences and will be taking firm action against them.

    “They are very naïve if they think their actions won’t now have consequences and we will be sending a very clear message to them over the coming days and weeks as our investigation progresses."

    South Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation after a man indecently exposed himself to a 15-year-old girl in Sheffield.

    The teenager was walking along Hatfield House Lane, in Firth Park, at about 08:00 this morning when a man, thought to be in his mid-30s, exposed himself in front of her before walking away.

    The man is described as white, with long brown curly hair, short stubble and light blue eyes. He has a small scar under his left eye.

    He is said to be of a heavy build and wearing square glasses, a black waterproof coat, blue jeans and dirty, white trainers.

    Officers are asking anyone who has any information about the incident to get in touch.

    A teenage boy has been left injured following a serious assault involving a "bladed weapon" in Leeds.

    The attack happened in East End Park at about 20:20 last night.

    The 17-year-old victim was left with non-life-threatening head and hand injuries which required hospital treatment.

    Two males, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested in connection with the assault and remain in custody.

    Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or might have any information about what happened.

    Two-time Olympic champion Nicola Adams says she hopes to stay involved in boxing after announcing her retirement over fears she could lose her sight.

    Adams, 37, from Leeds, became the first female Olympic boxing champion when she won flyweight gold at London 2012.

    She retained her title at Rio 2016.

    "I’m looking forward to seeing the next Olympic gold medallists coming up and cheering them on," said Adams.

    "I absolutely love boxing - it’s my passion. Even though I won’t be boxing anymore I’ll definitely stay involved in some way because I just love the sport.

    "I’ve been training for so many years, I’m going to sit back, chill and relax take a little break and decide where I go from there."

    Volunteers are being asked to come forward to help with the creation of a community woodland in memory of murdered West Yorkshire Labour MP Jo Cox.

    The 41-year-old MP was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall, West Yorkshire, on 16 June 2016.

    The Spen Valley Civic Society hopes to finish planting the woodland in Liversedge by early next year.

    It will include an outdoor classroom and about 2,000 plants and trees.

  20. Fire crews attacked on Bonfire Nightpublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2019

    Three fire crews in West Yorkshire and one in South Yorkshire were attacked with fireworks last night, it's been confirmed.

    One incident, in Banstead Park, Harehills, in Leeds, preceded an outbreak of disorder in the nearby area.

    Fireworks were also thrown at fire engines attending incidents in Redcliffe Street, Keighley and Rugby Place, Lidget Green, in Bradford, according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    Firefighters responding to reports of a fire on Wensley Street in Sheffield had "objects including eggs and fireworks" thrown at them.

    No fire crew members were hurt during these attacks, it's been confirmed.
