    A Sheffield woman says flooding at her home has "left devastation behind".

    Nicki Donohoe lives on Church Street, Ecclesfield, and says the street - and her home - has been affected by heavy rain.

    A video she filmed outside her home shows the road flooded, which has also affected her cellar.

    Here's the latest from South Yorkshire Police on the situation at Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield.

    Earlier, hundreds of people were left stranded due to flooding and subsequent traffic gridlock in the area.

  3. Sheffield flooding: Town Hall to stay open through nightpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    Sheffield Town Hall will be open all night for anyone stranded by the floods as people in the north of the city start to fear the worst.

    Council staff have given up their night to help people stranded and will be offering hot drinks and warmth.

    There are serious concerns about flooding at homes at Winn Gardens, Middlewood, Holme Lane in Hillsborough and Malin Bridge, Forge Lane and Waterside Lane at Oughtibridge and Mill Lane at Ecclesfield.

    Shop owners in parts of West Yorkshire are preparing to face more rain and possible flooding overnight.

    More rain is forecast overnight.

    Hebden Bridge was hit in December 2016, with more than 3,000 properties being flooded.

    Hundreds of people have been left stranded in Meadowhall after flooding brought gridlock to surrounding roads, according to PA Media.

    Thousands had headed to the shopping centre, just off the M1 near Sheffield, on Thursday afternoon for the annual Christmas Live event which was due to feature acts including Ella Henderson, Tom Zanetti and Jonas Blue.

    But the show was called off at the last minute as torrential rain saw levels on the nearby River Don rise dramatically and several routes around the complex affected by flooding.

    On Thursday evening, police announced the area was completely gridlocked and began to turn trapped motorists back into the centre's massive car parks.

    South Yorkshire Police's Operational Support Unit then advised everyone in the centre not to leave:

  7. Rail problems across the regionpublished at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    As well as problems on the roads, there are also a number of service changes/disruptions to the railways due the rainfall.

    Train operator Northern is advising customers not to travel

    Services are currently unable to run between Sheffield and Gainsborough Central/Lincoln Central.

    Northern says it's currently unable to provide road transport as roads in the area are also flooded.

    Trains will not call at Rotherham Central due to flooding but a bus replacement service is in place.

    All lines between Barnsley and Huddersfield are closed due to flooding at Denby Dale.

    There is also a broken down train between Huddersfield and Stalybridge

    Trains are unable to run between Sheffield and Wakefield Westgate/Leeds because of flooding at Moorthorpe.

    There are dozens of flood warnings in place across our region this evening.

    In total, England is covered by 79 warnings - which means flooding is expected.

    There are a further 109 flood alerts - where people should "be prepared" - in place.

  10. 'Do not leave Meadowhall' - Police warningpublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    South Yorkshire Police have advised people in the Meadowhall shopping centre not to leave after flooding left the area gridlocked.

    The force's operational support unit said on Twitter: "All roads around Meadowhall are currently gridlocked.

    "There is heavy flooding due to adverse weather conditions and closures are in place. Please avoid the area. Events at Meadowhall are CANCELLED. We advise only essential travel."

    The unit then added: "If you are in Meadowhall, do not leave the shopping centre - await further updates.

    "If you are travelling to collect people, do not attempt your journey. Await updates as we work to ensure safety of people in the immediate vicinity."

    The force earlier said it had closed the nearby junction 34 of the M1 in both directions to "alleviate pressure".

    There's a warning for rail commuters in Yorkshire tonight as disruption is expected due to heavy rain and subsequent flooding.

    Network Rail and train operators say services across Yorkshire are disrupted, with many routes flooded.

    This is expected to continue until tomorrow, with passengers being told to check before travelling.

    Lines between Sheffield and Gainsborough, Rotherham Central and Meadowhall, and Sheffield and Wakefield Westgate/Leeds are most heavily affected.

    A car under the railway bridge in Heeley, Sheffield, is being removed at the moment, with vehicles also being rescued from flooded Wombwell Lane, Barnsley.

    Fire crews are asking people not to drive into floodwater, with just 30cm of water being enough to set a car afloat.

    The River Don is "threatening to overtop its banks", according to the Environment Agency.

    But despite the river levels rising to more than 3.6m today as a result of heavy rain, it hasn't burst its banks.

  17. M1 junctions to close as Meadowhall 'gridlocked'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    All roads around Meadowhall in Sheffield are currently gridlocked, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    As a result, the police are set to close some junctions of the M1 to alleviate some of the pressure on the road network.

    South Yorkshire Police are asking people to avoid the area and only travel if it's essential.

  18. Meadowhall cancel event after 'public transport issues'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2019

    Meadowhall's Christmas lights switch-on event has been cancelled because of bad weather and subsequent problems on public transport, a spokesperson for the shopping centre says.

    The Meadowhall Christmas Live concert was due to go ahead despite flood warnings being issued for the nearby River Don, with the Environment Agency deploying flood defences.

    But the shopping centre has confirmed the event will now not go ahead following the heavy rain and flooding.

    "We appreciate this news will be very disappointing to the many ticket holders who remained keen to attend despite the rain", a spokesperson said.

    "But we feel we have a duty to recognise the issues people may face in trying to return home."

    Retailers at the shopping centre have been given the option to close early, the statement went on to say.
