Daniel Paul Khosa, 32, from Leeds, was sentenced at York Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary.
The court heard his victim had taken a picture of him and the vehicle he was driving as her left her home.
The woman had taken the photo after seeing Khosa walk down her stairs.
In a victim impact statement she said: "As he was walking down the stairs I was horrified about what he was going to do next as I felt incredibly vulnerable and was desperate for him to leave the house."
PC Andrew Chapman said: “I’d like to praise the victim for her quick thinking which enabled us to promptly identify and locate Khosa."
An "emaciated" dog taken into RSPCA care in Hull last December is preparing to spend his first Christmas at home with his new owner.
Dobby the Doberman was rescued by the charity last December.
Inspectors say he was too weak to walk and suffering from a wound to his head and sores on his body as well as being "extremely emaciated and dehydrated."
He's now been rehomed by Lynda Allen, in York, who said: "He’s so friendly and funny. It’s like Christmas Day every day living with Dobby - he’s just so excited when I come downstairs every morning."
