    A disabled woman from York has been talking about the freedom an "amazing" specially adapted bus gives her to go on holidays.

    Claire Houseman, who has spina bifida and hydrocephalus, explores the UK and Europe on the Jumbulance, a jumbo ambulance provided by a national charity.

    She says she wants to enjoy holidays in just the same way as able-bodied people and won't let anything stop her.

    Two paramedics were hurt in a crash in Hull between a car and an ambulance which was on its way to hospital with a patient.

    Further details have been released about the collision between the ambulance and a silver Toyota Yaris.

    It happened on Leads Road at the junction with Rotterdam Road at about 07:10 on Monday morning.

    Two paramedics suffered minor shoulder injuries and the driver of the Yaris was unhurt.

    A man in his 60s who was being taken to hospital in the ambulance has since died.

    He didn’t suffer any injuries in the incident and his death isn't linked to the collision, police say.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to get in touch with the Humberside force.

    Two people have been arrested after a car was found on its roof in Sheffield overnight.

    The VW Golf was found flipped over on Gleadless Road, Gleadless, with police being flagged down by a member of the public.

    The car had crashed into a shop.

    At a nearby address, a man and a woman were arrested for driving while unfit through drink and drugs, possession of Class A drugs and cultivation of cannabis, police said.

    A woman has been left with "life-changing injuries" after being hit by a bus in Leeds city centre.

    The collision between a double-decker bus and a woman in her 20s happened at about 16:00 on Tuesday at the junction of Boar Lane and New Station Street, near Leeds railway station.

    The woman remains in hospital, officers have confirmed.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to get in touch with West Yorkshire Police.

    Air rifles and a stolen shotgun have been seized by police during a raid on a suspected cannabis farm in South Yorkshire.

    A dozen cannabis plants were seized by police along with the weapons following the search at a property in Kimberworth Park.

    The shotgun which was recovered was originally stolen in 2014, police said.

    A man has been arrested as a result of the raid.

    A Scarborough man has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years for raping a woman.

    Joseph Barstow, 40, of Chatsworth Gardens, Scarborough, was sentenced at York Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of one count of rape.

    The court also issued him with a restraining order and told him he will have to sign on to the sex offenders register for life.

    Barstow raped his victim at a property in Scarborough in October last year.

    Det Con Steve Monty said: “I am extremely pleased justice has been delivered for the victim and her family, who have shown massive strength of character and courage throughout this distressing process.

    “I hope the fact Barstow is now serving a prison sentence brings them some comfort that justice has been done," he added.

    Trains between Sheffield and London have been cancelled until this afternoon because of overrunning engineering work.

    The work is happening between Sheffield and Chesterfield, affecting services using the Midland Mainline.

    Services are being cancelled until about 15:30, National Rail Enquiries has said, external.

    Services run by train operator Northern between Nottingham and Leeds are also affected.

    Two teenagers have been arrested after a stolen car rammed a police car in Hull yesterday.

    The people in the car tried to run away from officers after the attack, Humberside Police said

    An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

    A man has exposed himself to two 10-year-old girls who were walking along a street in Doncaster, police say.

    It happened at about 08:30 yesterday morning as the girls were walking along Askern Road in Bentley.

    When they were near the youth club and doctor’s surgery, a man who was sitting in a red vehicle which was parked in a lay-by exposed himself, according to police.

    The suspect is described as white, over 60-years-old, with white hair and a white beard and he was wearing glasses.

    Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage which might have captured the vehicle or its occupant, is being urged to contact police.

    The M62 was closed eastbound in West Yorkshire last night after a car being driven by an "intoxicated" driver ended up on its roof, police say.

    Officers released these pictures of the incident which happened between J29 and J30 near Leeds and Wakefield.

    The West Yorkshire force apologised for traffic delays, explaining the reason was a "single-vehicle collision" involving an "intoxicated driver".

    Fire crews from Hunslet and Cleckheaton released the motorist from his vehicle.

    He was then treated by paramedics at the scene, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

    Police at the scene warned: "The incident could have resulted in serious injuries or worse."

    A "dangerous" teenage rapist from East Yorkshire who subjected two girls to a string of sex offences has been jailed for 16 years.

    Michael Laverick, 19, from Pocklington, was convicted of 10 charges including rape, attempted rape and sexual assault following a trial at Hull Crown Court in October.

    In March, Beverley Magistrates Court heard he was aged 16 when he first committed the crimes in East Yorkshire.

    His sentence also includes a three-and-a-half-year extended parole period, which he must serve on licence.

    Humberside Police said Laverick, of Denison Road, Pocklington, was "coercive and sinister" and had displayed "a serious level of violent and sexualised offending", which had affected the children's "mental health in the long term".

    The 19-year-old was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday.

    If you're making a journey on the rails in Yorkshire this Wednesday morning, the vast majority of services appear to be generally running on time.

    However, overrunning engineering work between Chesterfield and Sheffield means the line from Chesterfield towards Sheffield is currently blocked.

    Where possible, trains will be diverted, not calling at Dronfield and disruption is expected to continue until approximately 15:00, according to National Rail Enquiries, external.

    Otherwise:

  16. Transport spend in North £527 per person less than Londonpublished at 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2019

    Transport spending in London is two-and-a-half times more per person than in the north of England, new figures have shown.

    Treasury data shows that in 2018-19, £903 was spent in the capital for every resident, while the north had £376.

    Passengers in Leeds said it showed "one rule for them and one rule for us".

    The government said its spending decisions were "rigorous and fair", and said the figures did not include money for future projects like HS2.

    Centre-left think tank IPPR North has analysed HM Treasury figures for 2018-19.

    They showed across the UK £481 was spent on transport per person - but this varied from £903 a head in London, to £268 in the East Midlands and £276 in Yorkshire and the Humber.

    The data included all public spending, and was based on the number of residents in the region.

    Three men have been arrested following a knife-point robbery at a retail park in West Yorkshire, police say.

    The robbery took place in Currys/PC World on the Birstall Retail Park just after 18:30 yesterday evening, when five males entered the store, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    At least one of the men was in possession of a bladed weapon.

    Three men were arrested later after a black BMW, believed to have been used as a getaway car, was seen in Huddersfield. All three remain in custody for questioning.

    Det Insp Matt Hawker said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw five suspects flee the store.

    "We know a black BMW was used by the males and are investigating whether there was a second vehicle involved."

    A woman has been injured after being hit by a bus in Leeds city centre.

    The incident happened at the junction of Boar Lane and New Station Street at about 16:00.

    Boar Lane is currently closed between Mill Hill and Duncan Street, according to traffic company Inrix.

    Bus passengers are being advised to check before they travel as some services are being diverted as a result of the incident.

    Taxis are also currently unable to pick people up from outside the front of the train station.
