    A Lincolnshire man has been jailed for 30 years after abusing boys when he worked as a sports coach in South Yorkshire.

    Dylan Lamb, 72, worked in Rotherham, Doncaster and Brigg in Lincolnshire as a football and hockey coach when the abuse took place.

    Lamb, who also went under the name of Johnathan Haythorne and Jonathan Haythorne Price, abused five boys in the 1970s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

    One victim was just 13 when the abuse took place in Swinton and Mexborough, South Yorkshire.

    The offender lured the children to his house and sometimes to hotels, buying them meals, presents and arranging trips.

    The 72-year-old, of Queens Court, Scawby, North Lincolnshire, was found guilty of 11 counts of indecent assault, five counts of indecency with a child and five counts of other additional sexual offences following a trial.

    Campaigners in East Yorkshire are hoping to make a breakthrough in their bid to buy their village pub.

    The Bosville Arms in Rudston, near Bridlington, is currently disused.

    Local residents are being invited to a meeting at Rudston Village Hall tonight for an update.

    Members of the group hope to buy the pub and turn it into a community hub for the village.

  3. More names hit stage for BBC's Flood Relief concertpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    New acts have been announced to play at a concert raising money for people affected by flooding in Doncaster - and tickets are still available.

    Hundreds of homes were evacuated when flooding hit South Yorkshire last month.

    A fundraising appeal, by the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, has so far raised almost £500,000.

    A concert has been organised by BBC Radio Sheffield to help more people affected by the flooding.

    More names have been added to the bill, including comedian and writer Nina Gilligan.

    She joins TV's Paul Sinha and Justin Moorhouse, along with music from Doncaster's Bang Bang Romeo and The Everly Pregnant Brothers.

    Tickets for Tuesday's Doncaster Dome gig are still on sale, costing £15, with all money going to the appeal.

    Tributes have been paid to a three-year-old boy from North Yorkshire who's died from a rare form of cancer.

    Freddie Thompson, who lived near Thirsk, died in hospital in Leeds on Tuesday after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma in September 2018.

    He was weeks away from receiving treatment for the condition in the USA after a huge fundraising campaign raised £500,000.

    Freddie's family said their "beautiful brave boy fought until the end".

    All the money raised towards his treatment will now go to the Solving Kids' Cancer charity.

    A chunky cat from Sheffield who had a fondness for chocolate chip muffins has been named "Top Cat" in a pet slimming competition.

    Bournville, who's seven years old, weighed 9.55kg six months ago before going on his diet.

    His owner cut out excess food and increased his exercise, with Bournville since dropping more than 1kg - about 11% of his body weight.

    A cat like Bournville has an ideal weight of 6kg, according to Pet Fit Club organiser PDSA.

    A man rescued after becoming trapped in a lift shaft in a former Bradford mill was "conscious and breathing", the fire service has said.

    Emergency services were called to the building on Cape Street at about 08:25 this morning to help free the man.

    He was later taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering injuries to his face.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

    Planners are being asked to decide whether a caravan site on Flamborough Head can be allowed to double in size.

    The owners of the Lighthouse Holiday Park want to increase the capacity of their site from 278 caravans to almost 600.

    They're promising to create a new nature reserve and public paths on the headland, but there have been almost 400 objections.

    Flamborough Parish Council says the character of Flamborough Head is being ruined because of the sheer quantity of caravans there.

    The application, which is recommended for refusal, is due to go before the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's planning committee later today, external.

    An emergency meeting is to be held in a North Yorkshire community this evening to discuss how to tackle lead being stolen from church roofs.

    The roof of the Grade-II listed 16th Century Parish Church of St Peter at Brafferton and Helperby was stripped overnight on 21 November, say police.

    It's the latest in a series of similar crimes, with 24 churches across the county being targeted this year.

    Residents say they will have to raise £100,000 to repair the church.

    The Reverend Deborah Coyne said: "This has been a heartbreaking blow for Helperby and Brafferton.

    "St Peter's is a much-loved building in the village and the surrounding area, whether people are regular worshippers or not, and the theft of the roof covering is a devastating blow to all of us."

    Tonight's meeting is due to take place at 18:00 in Brafferton's Village Hall.

    The device was taken on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning of last week, according to the council.

    In a statement, a spokesperson said: "It is hard to believe someone would take vital equipment put in place to potentially save lives and protect the people in our communities."

    A man has been pulled to safety after he became trapped in a lift shaft inside a former mill in Bradford.

    Emergency services were called to the building on Cape Street, Bradford this morning at about 08:35.

    One person was trapped, with fire crews also attending to help release him.

    The man has been released and has suffered injuries to his face, according to police.

    His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time, officers add.

    The boat is currently being guarded by a police officer at its mooring on Dame Judi Dench Walk, about 100m upstream from Lendal Bridge.

    Emergency services were called out to the River Ouse at about 20:00, where the men's bodies were discovered.

    Concerns were raised about the men after they'd been out of touch with their family, North Yorkshire Police have said.

    Their deaths are said by police to be "unexplained".

    The men have not yet been identified and post-mortem examinations will be carried out later.

    A 16-year-old girl has been left seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash in Sheffield.

    It happened on Horninglow Road, at the junction with Tideswell Road in Firth Park, at about 15:10.

    The teenager, who was walking on the pavement, was hit by two cars when they crashed and she suffered serious leg injuries.

    A 39-year-old woman, who was driving a Ford Fiesta, was also seriously injured. A passenger in her car, an eight-year-old girl, was also injured.

    Two people who were in a Seat Leon which also crashed left the scene, police said.

    Two 21-year-old men from Sheffield have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

    It's hoped a deep clean of the building will stop the virus spreading further, the school added.

    Emergency services were called out to the River Ouse, near Lendal, at about 20:00 on Wednesday, where the bodies of the men were discovered.

    Concerns were raised about the men, both in their 60s, after they'd been out of touch with their family, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    The men have not yet been identified and post-mortem examinations will be carried out later.

    Investigations are continuing this morning, police say.
