    Police are appealing for help to find a missing 73-year-old holidaymaker.

    Linda Farnes was last seen around 15.30 when she left the room she was staying in with her husband at Arthington Court, on East Parade, in Harrogate.

    North Yorkshire Police say they are "concerned for her welfare" as Mrs Farnes has dementia and is on holiday in Harrogate so is not familiar with the local area.

    She is described as a white woman, around 5ft tall with short grey hair. She is wearing a short knee-length grey coat with black flecks, black trousers, black short boots and red gloves.

    Ticket barriers have been re-aligned and a new roof fitted as part of a major refurbishment to the station.

    Further improvements are planned over the Christmas period, meaning the station will close for five days, external, said operator Network Rail.

    A police community support officer (PCSO) has been assaulted whilst on duty in East Yorkshire, police say.

    It happened last Thursday (12 December) in Driffield at about 11:30, when officers were called to reports of concern for the safety of a man on Middle Street.

    Humberside Police say the PCSO was assaulted when he tried to speak to the man.

    The force said an 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed to appear at a police station at a later date.

    Anyone who witnessed the incident is being urged to contact police.

    A woman has died after the car she was driving collided with two parked vehicles in Brighouse.

    The woman was driving a grey Range Rover on Clough Lane, at about 05:00 on Sunday when she crashed into a Citroen C1 and a Honda CRV at the side of the road.

    West Yorkshire Police said the woman was taken to hospital but died a short time later

    The force has appealed for any witnesses to the crash to get in touch.

    Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) is urging people to only call 999 in an emergency as they approach the busy Christmas period.

    Over the holidays YAS say on average they deal with one 999 call every 30 seconds and in the next three weeks expect to receive more than 70,000 calls.

    But not every call to their control room is an emergency, wasting operator time and blocking the line for people who need it.

    As a result YAS is asking people only to contact them for serious and life-threatening situations.

    The police watchdog has launched an investigation after a man was shot by armed officers in a street.

    A 35-year-old man was seriously injured in the shooting in Hessle Road, Hull, in the early hours of Sunday.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it was gathering evidence.

    Humberside Police said a firearms unit attended the scene after reports of a man "believed to be in possession of a firearm".

    The injured man remains in hospital in a "critical but stable condition", the force said.

    Sheffield tram-train operator Stagecoach Supertram says it hopes to be able to run a limited number of services from tomorrow after the vehicles were taken out of service at the weekend.

    Services between Sheffield and Rotherham were suspended on Saturday after vehicle manufacturer Stadler advised the temporary withdrawal of the fleet due to issues with a hydraulic system.

    Checks are taking place with the hope of resuming two services an hour in each direction tomorrow morning, according to Stagecoach.

    A teenage boy has been found guilty of murdering a Halifax mum-of-three, following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.

    Paige Gibson, 23, was knifed in the chest outside her flat in Ovenden on 7 June.

    The 16-year-old boy showed no emotion as the jury returned its unanimous verdict at the end of a trial which began last month.

    The prosecution alleged the stabbing was the result of a row after Miss Gibson agreed to sell some items for the teenager and a friend so they could buy drugs.

    Bradford Crown Court heard that in the lead-up to the attack, the 16-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had repeatedly visited Miss Gibson’s flat to try and get his money or property.

    The boy is due to be sentenced by the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, later this afternoon.

    Yorkshire rail users hit by cancellations and delays as train operator Northern launched a new timetable have been told services are generally "performing well".

    A Northern spokesperson said: “Of the 2,800 Northern services a day, very few have seen any changes as a result of the timetable coming in today.

    "The relatively small number of delays and cancellations are due to operational issues including driver sickness, signalling failure and train faults.”

    Nineteen trains had been cancelled by 10:00 and 31 delayed, some due to a shortage of drivers.

    The operator said the issue affected services between Blackpool North and Manchester Airport, Leeds to York and Sheffield, and Darlington to Saltburn.

    Transpennine Express also cancelled 29 services on this morning.

    Plans to refurbish two Hull swimming pools at a cost of £7.5m have been given the go ahead.

    More than £4.5m will be spent on refurbishing the Albert Avenue baths, including reopening the outdoor pool.

    The lido was last used for public swimming in the late 1980s. It has only remained open for use by a private kayak club.

    Meanwhile, £2.9m will be spent on refurbishing Beverley Road Baths, including building a new gym.

    The plans were approved by Hull City Council's cabine, externalt at a meeting this morning.

    The road is closed in both directions between the Staxton and Seamer roundabouts following the collision, which happened at about 11:40.

    A car exploded in Halifax when the driver lit a cigarette after spraying the interior with air freshener.

    He used an aerosol air freshener but failed to open the windows before sparking up, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    The blast was so strong it blew out the windscreen and windows and buckled the doors but the man escaped with only minor injuries.

    The explosion, which happened on Fountain Street on Saturday, also caused damage to a nearby business premises.

    Police said the incident "could've been worse" and warned people to follow safety advice.

    The former assistant head coach of Barnsley Football Club has been found guilty of accepting a bribe of £5,000 to leak commercial information about players.

    Tommy Wright, 53, was handed an envelope of cash during the course of an undercover investigation by Daily Telegraph reporter Claire Newell into corruption in football in 2016.

    Wright, of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, denied wrongdoing but was convicted of two charges of accepting a bribe in contravention of the Bribery Act 2000 at Southwark Crown Court earlier.

    Two football agents - Giuseppe "Pino" Pagliara, 64, of Bury, Greater Manchester, and Dax Price, 48, of Sittingbourne, Kent - were also both convicted of paying and facilitating a bribe.

    Wright, who was sacked by Barnsley in 2016, will be sentenced together with Pagliara and Price in the new year.

    The first person to die in the bombardment of Scarborough during World War One has been remembered at a ceremony this morning.

    Leonard Ellis was killed when two German battlecruisers shelled the town on 16 December 1914 killing 18 people

    Mr Ellis died when a shell hit the chemist shop where he worked.

    This morning a plaque was unveiled on the spot where he died.

    Wayne Murray (pictured), who raised the money for the plaque, said: "When I read his story he had to be the first person I got a plaque for.

    "His wife and child died in childbirth in 1903, his father died in the Scarborough workhouse in 1909 and he was killed in the bombardment, so he didn't have a great life."
