Bradford terror arrest: 'No danger' to schoolpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2020
A head teacher has said there is not believed to be any danger to students and staff after a man was arrested by counter-terrorism police near a school in Bradford.
A 38-year-old man was arrested earlier on suspicion of explosives offences, police have confirmed.
Three residential addresses are being searched in connection with the investigation and following the discovery of some items at one of the properties, the Army bomb squad has been called to provide specialist advice.
A number of local residents have been evacuated from their homes as a "precautionary measure".
Richard Woods, head teacher of Hanson Academy, said in a statement on Facebook: "Having taken advice from police and authorities there is no danger to school, students or staff."
Currently there is no vehicle or pedestrian access on Sutton Avenue, Mr Woods added.
He has advised parents to check the school's website as pupils may need to exit via Myers Lane at the end of the day.
