    Police are appealing for help after a teenage girl said the man indecently exposed himself on the footpath on New Bridge between 08:20 and 8:40 last Friday.

    The man has been released on bail as investigations continue, officers say.

    The victim was attacked at about 03:45 on Otley Road near the junction of Moor Road, Headingley, before he went into a BP filling station to ask staff for help.

    The attacker has been described as a man wearing a cream or white anorak with the hood up.

    Det Insp Carl Morrison said: "We are still working to establish the motive for this attack as it appears there was nothing said to the victim or any demands made for his property.

    "The CCTV footage we have recovered so far shows the victim being followed by a suspect in the moments leading up to him being attacked."

    This was the scene in Sheffield a little earlier this afternoon after a car flipped onto its roof in a crash:

    The white Audi was involved in a collision with another car on Firth Park Road at about 12:40 this afternoon.

    It then landed on its roof, with the driver having to escape the car by crawling through a window.

    Police say no injuries were reported to them after the crash, with the road now having been reopened.

    Any witnesses to the crash are being asked to get in touch with police.

    Thieves stole an 86-year-old woman's jewellery collection when she left her house for just half-an-hour.

    The items, which had been handed down by her grandparents, were stolen between 16:45 and 17:15 on Wednesday 4 March, from a house in York Road, in Riccall, North Yorkshire.

    Thieves searched every room in the house before stealing a large quantity of jewellery of "great sentimental value," (pictured above and below), according to North Yorkshire Police.

    PC David Fulford said: “The victim was devastated to return to her home, which had only been unattended for half an hour, to discover it had been burgled.

    “I'd like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any suspicious activity, or has any information, CCTV or dash-cam footage, to assist my inquiries," he added.

    A funeral director has pledged to set up a drop-off point for knives at his Sheffield premises, following another fatal stabbing in the city.

    Michael Fogg, who runs Michael Fogg Family Funeral Directors, said the weapons bin will be there for people to post knives, with "no questions asked"., external

    It comes after a 23-year-old died after being stabbed at a property on Woodthorpe Road on Friday.

    The funeral directors' is less than a mile away on Woodhouse Road.

    In a Facebook, post, Mr Fogg said he "felt sick" at another life being lost to knife crime in his community.

    "Something has to be done about this and I hope the youths see my post," he said.

    The killing on Friday was the second fatal stabbing in Sheffield this year, following the death of Isaiah Usen-Satchell on New Year's Day.

    A man who raped and stabbed a woman in what detectives have described as one of the worst cases they've seen has been jailed for life.

    Kevin Lemm, 37, attacked the woman in Bridge Street, Castleford, on 3 January.

    Leeds Crown Court heard he subjected his victim to a prolonged assault in which he stabbed her with a knife, resulting in "serious and life changing injuries."

    Det Ch Insp Vanessa Rolfe said: ‘Lemm subjected his victim to a horrendous and sustained attack in which he raped and stabbed her with a knife in a frightening and horrific ordeal.

    "The victim has been left with life changing injuries from the horrific attack and is coming to terms with what has happened to her," she added.

    Lemm, of Denton Terrace, Castleford, was jailed for a minimum of nine years after he admitted rape, wounding, making threats to kill, robbery and possession of a bladed article.

    A man stabbed to death in Sheffield on Friday has been named as Jordan Marples-Douglas.

    The 23-year-old was found with multiple stab wounds at a property on Woodthorpe Road shortly after 20:00. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A post-mortem examination carried out last night concluded he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest, police say.

    No arrests have been made and more officers will be carrying out house-to-house inquiries and searches, the force adds.

    Det Insp Scott Harrison said: “We are working hard to piece together exactly what happened at the property on Woodthorpe Road.

    “A priority for us is hearing from anyone who was on Woodthorpe Road between 19:30 and 20:30 on Friday night and noticed anything unusual."

    Officers are asking people to check their CCTV cameras and dashcams for any footage that might help its investigation.

    Five inspirational figures from the city have been shortlisted to have the crossing named in their honour.

    School students from Newland School for Girls and Archbishop Sentamu Academy submitted essays saying who inspired them and why.

    The names picked are World War Two veteran Thomas Ransom, Dr Mary Murdoch, who was Hull’s first female GP, "headscarf revolutionary" Lillian Bilocca, philanthropist and abolitionist William Wilberforce and Julia Lee, the first woman to officiate men’s rugby league games in the UK.

    People are now being asked to vote on which name they think should inspire the name of the new bridge, with votes being cast on the Highways England website, external.

    The 60m-long bridge links the city centre with Hull Marina.

    The search is continuing for an 81-year-old man who's been missing from North Yorkshire for more than a week.

    Brian Warriss was last seen in the village of Aldwark, north of York, at about 16:45 on Sunday 1 March.

    Officers say they are "very concerned" for his welfare.

    A police search team, dog handlers and the York Rescue Boat have all so far been involved in looking for Mr Warriss.

    He's described as slim with blue eyes and a grey moustache.

    Anyone who sees him, particularly people with dashcam footage recorded in the area around the time he went missing, is being urged to contact the North Yorkshire force immediately.

    A woman in her 20s died when the car she was a passenger in hit a wall in West Yorkshire.

    The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday morning on the B6108 in Huddersfield.

    West Yorkshire Police said a white BMW travelling in the direction of Meltham collided with a wall at the junction of Crossland Spring Road.

    A man in his 20s, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    The driver, a man in his 20s, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while above the legal alcohol limit, police say.

    He's been released from police custody while investigations into the crash continue.

    Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicle driving in the area before the crash, is being asked to contact police.

    It was the first time the Steelers have won the challenge cup in 16 years after they beat the Cardiff Devils 4-3.

    Devils had beaten Steelers 7-3 to top the Elite League in Cardiff on Friday.

    Head coach Aaron Fox said: "Yesterday was pretty special. We wanted to achieve this goal from day one. Fan support was unbelievable - 1,500 people in orange down there.

    "It feels awesome, after our hockey game on Friday, with us knowing we had this in two days, it's the best way to answer.

    "The boys pushed back hard and I'm really proud of them. I'm really happy we were able to bring the cup home this early and hopefully we find more silverware down the road."

    A 72-year-old man has been stabbed in the back in the early hours of this morning.

    The man was approached from behind on Moor Road, in Headingley, Leeds, just before 04:00 this morning, by a male who stabbed him and ran off, West Yorkshire Police say.

    The victim was treated by ambulance staff and taken to hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, say police.

    Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious is being asked to contact police.

    Time-lapse footage captured during storms Ciara and Dennis has been released to show the speed at which water levels rose in parts of West Yorkshire.

    The film was taken by the National Trust on the moors in the Calder and Colne Valleys.

    During storm Ciara 100mm of rain fell in 12-hours, flooding hundreds of properties in Calderdale.

    Meanwhile, in East Yorkshire, the Environment Agency (EA) says its continuing its pumping operation on the River Aire in the Snaith and East Cowick area, where more than 90 homes were recently flooded.

    The EA has issued one flood warning at Snaith Ings, external, where flooding is still affecting some properties.

    A campaign's begun to rename Leeds Bradford Airport after Hull-born aviator Amy Johnson.

    Amy Johnson flew into the spotlight when she became the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930. She was killed in a plane crash in 1941.

    The company Netflights, who set up the petition to name the airport after her, says it wants to see more airports around the world being named after women.

    It says it started the petition after discovering "out of 352 airports named after people of note, past and present, only 16 are named after women."

    Netflights says: "This historic gender imbalance needs to change."

    So far 149 people have signed the petition.

    A number of people recruited by a sales company offering the chance to make money "most people only dream about" said they have been left out of pocket.

    ACN, a so-called multi-level marketing company based in the US, has recruited hundreds of people in the UK.

    It costs about £400 to join and people can make money by selling utility contracts - often to friends or family.

    The BBC has been told that ACN's meetings in Bradford, Sheffield and Manchester are highly popular with British Asians.

    One woman, who asked to be identified only as Aysha said: "People from this background, they're first generation British, their parents come with nothing and that's one reason they want to give this a go.

    "We were naive to think it might be an opportunity for us."

    ACN said it made it clear there was no magic formula for success and it depended on an individual's talent.

    Two men have been arrested after a man suffered life-threatening head injuries in a suspected hit-and-run crash in South Yorkshire.

    Police were called to Sticking Lane in Adwick-Upon-Dearne, near Mexborough, shortly before 03:00 on Saturday.

    The 29-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital after being hit by "an unknown vehicle", which is believed to have left the scene, police said.

    The men, aged 22 and 24, were held under dangerous driving offences.

    The pair, both of whom were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at a collision and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, have since been released under investigation.

    Officers have appealed for witnesses and anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage of "the moments before, or after, the collision" to get in touch.
