Frank Turner livestream raises £10k for Huddersfield venuepublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 1 May 2020
A benefit gig by folk-punk singer Frank Turner in support of The Parish venue in Huddersfield has helped raise more than £10,000.
Turner livestreamed the performance from his home in aid of the Kirkgate venue after it said it feared going out of business having being forced to close during the coronavirus lockdown.
Aaron Snowdon, from The Parish, said donations on the day of the show saw a crowdfunding campaign for the venue go from about £31,000 to over £43,000.
"It's hard to express [how much this means]," he said.
"Everybody this morning, especially myself and the other management, feels pretty overwhelmed with the support we've had and what Frank has done for us. We've had people donating from all over the world because of what he did.
"I really hope this means we can still be there when all this is over. It's hard to predict what will happen, but the future is looking pretty bright for The Parish now, so a massive thank you to all who donated and especially to Frank for giving us his time."
