The Hundred - the England and Wales Cricket Board's new city-based tournament - has been postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 100-ball competition, involving eight teams - including the Leeds-based Northern Superchargers - in separate men's and women's tournaments, was due to begin on 17 July and end on 15 August.
An England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) meeting on Wednesday concluded it was not possible for The Hundred to be staged this year.
"Of course, today's decision is tinged with disappointment but we do recognise the country is going through something unprecedented," ECB chief executive Tom Harrison told BBC Sport.
"All sectors of society are redeploying their thinking to how we help the country get out of this, rather than fulfilling the ambitions we might have for our certain sports.
"In our case, the sacrifices we are making at the moment seem very small in comparison to what is happening in the big picture."

A man and a woman from Sheffield have received fines for breaching coronavirus restrictions, after they were found camping in woodland near Longshaw in the Peak District.
Officers were called to the scene on Monday after reports from the fire service, they then found the pair had set up a tent, hammock, and barbecue.
Derbyshire Police fined the 37-year-old man, and 31-year-old woman, and escorted them off the land.
PC Linda Hancock said: "Most people are compliant and very understanding but unfortunately in this incident we were forced to issue fines for breaching the regulations."

Investigating officer Amy Lees said: "This was obviously a very distressing incident for the elderly man and his family.
"Any information that could help our inquiries really is appreciated," she added:

An A&E department serving 120,000 people in North Yorkshire will permanently close due to staff shortages and concerns over patient safety, the NHS has confirmed.
The A&E department at Northallerton's Friarage Hospital will be replaced with a 24/7 "urgent treatment centre", according to North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
The CCG, responsible for NHS services in the area, says the decision follows an 18-week consultation involving over 2,000 people, giving views online, through surveys and at public meetings.
According to the CCG, members of the public were asked to consider two options:
The "overwhelming" view of those who gave their views was that the Friarage should offer a 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre, the CCG says.
That model has already been "operating successfully" since March 2019, it adds.
CCG chair, Dr Charles Parker, says the 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre option is the "sustainable way forward for urgent care at the hospital".
"Evidence shows that, under this model, nine out of 10 patients will continue to receive their care at the Friarage," he says.

The grounds of Wakefield and Pontefract crematoria have been reopened to visitors after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Members of the public may now visit memorial sites and gardens at both venues but must continue to observe social distancing rules.
Wakefield Council’s acting chief executive, Andrew Balchin, said: “Closing the grounds of the crematoria was a difficult decision and was taken after considering all the advice and guidance from central government at the time.
“[But] we have looked at the latest guidance and are now reopening the crematoria grounds. By making this change it means people can visit and pay their respects to their loved ones. We know how much this matters to people."

Hull's most senior nurse, Beverley Geary, says people have been going to Hull Royal Infirmary to clap during the coronavirus lockdown - something she says needs to stop.
She's asking people to stay at home and clap for the key workers instead of making a non-essential journey and "then failing to observe the 2m distancing rule" outside the hospital.
She said: "We’ve become increasingly concerned people are coming to hospital just to clap and are putting themselves and others in danger by standing too close to each other. We’ve seen the numbers increase, week by week.
"We would like to thank you for your fantastic support, but stress you can help the NHS best and save lives by staying at home this week," she added.

A North Yorkshire seaside town is offering a free weekend break to front-line NHS staff to thank them for their efforts fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
The Whitby Hospitality Group said the two-night breaks, planned for the first weekend in October, would include accommodation and food.
NHS staff can apply online and will be selected at random and then contacted by organisers.
The event would be subject to lockdown measures being lifted by October.
The idea originated from Whitby guesthouse owners Polly and Andy Brown.
Despite their business being closed, Mrs Brown said she wanted to be able to do something to help.
"I just thought 'when everything is back to normal wouldn't it be really good to give them all a treat?'," she said.
"To open up the town and give them free accommodation and food and everything. Just a little thank you from us here in Whitby."

A 26-year-old Leeds man has been charged with production of cannabis and abstracting electricity and is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court later.
The force said its investigation into the fire and explosion - which is being treated as arson - is ongoing and has appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

Doncaster Prison has been highlighted in a new report which says UK jails are in "deep crisis".
The report, by the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), says violence, drug problems and overcrowding prevail in the country's male prisons.
The committee inspected Doncaster, Liverpool and Wormwood Scrubs prisons, as well as two young offender institutions in May last year.
Although there had been some progress since 2016, the committee found problems remained.
Drug-taking was found to be "omnipresent" in the jails CPT members visited, especially at Doncaster where the "smell of drugs wafted along the corridors even in plain daylight".
Meanwhile, a prisoner was seen smoking "legal highs" openly and wasn't challenged, the report says.
It adds that prisoners at Doncaster "pleaded" with the CPT delegation to ask prison management to crack down on drug-taking at night as "the smell and fumes permeated the cell vents of other prisoners".
Peter Dawson, director of the Prison Reform Trust, said the report was "deeply shaming".
"It shows how far below the standards of a civilised country our prison system has fallen," he said.
A Ministry of Justice spokersperson said: "This government has made its commitment to safe, secure and decent prisons very clear."
The annual memorial service marking the anniversary of the Valley Parade fire disaster in Bradford will take place online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's been confirmed.
Fifty four Bradford City fans and two Lincoln City fans died and over 250 others were injured in the tragedy on 11 May 1985.
At the start of the home game, Bradford's players had been presented with the Division Three championship title - the team's first trophy in 56 years - in front of 11,000 jubilant fans.
But celebrations turned to tragedy when the main stand at Valley Parade - a wooden structure - was engulfed in flames after it is thought someone dropped a lit cigarette.
The annual service marking the anniversary of the disaster is usually held in Bradford's Centenary Square, but this year's service will be held online due to social distancing measures as the coronavirus pandemic continues, the club says.
Readings and prayers will be delivered via the club’s and council’s social media channels from 11:00 on Monday 11 May.
Commemorative wreaths will also be placed at the Bradford City ground and in Centenary Square, on behalf of club officials, Bradford Council and Lincoln City.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Doreen Lee, said: "While we will be paying our respects in a different way this year, the commemoration will be no less poignant," she added.
A new coronavirus testing centre opens today in East Yorkshire.

It's the latest testing centre to be opened, joining one in a car park at the Humber Bridge.
The centre will run for three days for those with booked appointments and is not open to the general public.

The males were arrested on Monday after the suspected stolen BMW they were in was pursued by police on the A1(M) at about 22:50.
The car was stopped near Dishforth Village using a stinger device, police say.
Three males in the car, including the 19-year-old driver, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a knife, according to North Yorkshire Police.
The 20-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.
The 19-year-old driver was further arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, drink-driving and possession of cannabis.
A second BMW, suspected of involvement with the first, was also stopped on the A1(M) near Wetherby.

All four men and the boy have been released while investigations continue.
West Yorkshire-born Capt Tom Moore, who raised more than £29m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden, has been made an honorary colonel on his 100th birthday.
