Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who returned to work on Monday, will join the tribute, which starts at 11:00.

More than 100 NHS and care staff have died with the virus, as have many transport and other key workers.

NHS England medical director Stephen Powis said he hoped "the whole nation" would show how much their "contribution is remembered and appreciated".

Chief nursing officer Ruth May added: "Every death is a tragedy but we feel the loss of fellow health and care workers particularly keenly."

It comes as hospitals in England start planning to restore some NHS services that had to be postponed because of the pandemic.

The latest daily figures show a further 360 people died with the virus in UK hospitals, taking the total number of deaths to 21,092.

This number includes 82 NHS staff and 16 care workers who were confirmed to have died in hospital in England. Last week, BBC analysis of the published figures found that at least 103 health workers had died with the virus across the UK.

Iain Edmondson, his wife Gill and their sons, Jamie, aged 10, and Alex, aged 9, took part in the 2.6 Challenge, set up by the organisers of this year's London Marathon.

The race was due to have taken place yesterday, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Edmonson says: "The boys are quite tired today, but really enjoyed it and learnt a lot about the street in the process.

  20. North Yorkshire deer road deaths spark police warningpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 27 April 2020

Motorists making essential journeys in North Yorkshire are being warned to take extra care after a number of deer were hit by vehicles on Saturday.

A young deer was found injured in the middle of Seamer Road in Scarborough in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Then, at 07:00 the same morning, officers say they came across a badly injured deer at the side of the A19 in Thirsk.

And a short time later, Highways Agency officers reported a deer had just been hit by a vehicle on the A1(M) near Leeming Bar.

In all three cases the animals died, police say.

North Yorkshire Police said it was possible that due to quieter traffic as a result of the coronavirus restrictions, wildlife was less likely to avoid roads and drivers should "keep vigilant".

A force spokesperson said: "We’re asking people to take extra care on their essential journeys – always expect the unexpected, especially at night and on roads through rural areas.

"These incidents also highlight the risk of making unnecessary journeys – you could be involved in a collision, even through no fault of your own, which puts a strain on emergency service resources that could be focused on fighting COVID-19.”

The highest-risk times for deer collisions are from sunset to midnight, and the hours shortly before and after sunrise, according to North Yorkshire Police.
