Libraries across the Harrogate district will begin a phased reopening next week as coronavirus restrictions are eased – but visitors won’t be allowed inside just yet.
North Yorkshire County Council has announced it is rebooting its library services in Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon from Monday 6 July.
However, customers will only be allowed to collect and return books from the library entrance as part of a free "select and collect" online service.
Visits will be by appointment only and books will also be quarantined when they are returned.
Only when restrictions are eased sufficiently, will libraries reopen their public toilets, cafe areas, desks and tables for public use, the council said.
Councillor Greg White said: "Our staff and volunteers are eager to welcome people back, but the safety of our customers must always come first. This is why we are taking things gradually."
Meanwhile, anyone who borrowed books before the lockdown is being asked not to hurry to return them, with the loan period extended to 1 September and no fines payable.
There are currently about 105,000 books items out on loan, the council added.

When coronavirus began to sweep across England, hundreds of Facebook groups were set up where people offered help to those living nearby.
"In the days before lockdown there was this strong desire to pull together survive and keep one another safe," said Marianne McNamara.
She and many others rallied to get Marsden Help Facebook page up and running in Kirklees, Huddersfield.
"It's been a real education," she said. "You don't realise how lucky you are until you go to deliver a food parcel and you have to ask 'do you have a fridge or a freezer to put this in or something to cook on?'
"Or when the children come running out to you and you can see in their faces that they're desperate for the food. We took some fresh fruit to a home and these kids were just devouring this punnet of strawberries before mum could even get them in the house."
Here are some of the ways Facebook groups across England co-ordinated their kindness to get communities through the pandemic.

Police are warning of a scammer in North Yorkshire who's pretending to be a police officer.

A brand new multi-million pound South Yorkshire theme park whose launch was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic has now been able to set a date for its official opening.
Gulliver's Valley Theme Park, in Rotherham, is to open on Saturday 11 July, it's been confirmed.
Staff were forced to postpone its launch because of the ongoing pandemic, giving themselves time to adapt to allow customers and staff to observe social distancing guidelines.
Opening with limited capacity, visitors to the £37m park will undergo temperature checks, will need to make advanced bookings and pay using contactless methods.
Some parts of the new park, like a soft play area, will open at a later date, its owners added.
Julie Dalton, managing director of Gulliver’s Theme Park Resorts, said the last few months have been "tough to say the least".
"When we started work on the park, we didn’t ever expect to be faced with a global pandemic, but I am proud to say our team has risen to the challenge and worked hard to enable us to open, just one month later than we initially planned," she said.

The Wyre Lady, which was used by the Royal Navy during World War Two, was moored at Sprotbrough Lock when she was set on fire last week, police say.
After spending the last few weeks getting her ready to sail again, skipper Tom Waddoups, 31, from Sprotbrough, was called by the fire service on Wednesday to be told the craft was on fire.
He said: "To be honest, it didn't really sink in until I saw it. It was soul-destroying. It's not a monetary thing for us, it's something we've put a huge amount of work into it.
"She has a tremendous amount of history, we almost feel like an ownership and responsibility to keep her going. So when something like this happens, it's really a rollercoaster of emotions. Anger, anguish and upset."
Writing on social media, he said the experience has been "absolutely heartbreaking".
South Yorkshire Police confirmed it was treating the fire as a suspected arson attack and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Mr Waddoups added: "She's 80 years old, it won't be an easy fix. We're not beaten, we desperately want to get her back up and running.
"The amount of support we've got from people connected with her has been completely overwhelming. We want to see her sail again."
