Health Secretary Matt Hancock will set out the plans in the Commons later, with a review promised by 16 December.

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said she understood only a "handful" of areas would be in the lowest tier.

Most areas would be in tier two with "significant numbers" in tier three - the highest level.

Differences between the tiers include limits on where households can meet up - for instance, in the new tier one, the rule of six applies indoors and out.

In tier two, the rule of six remains outdoors but there is no household mixing indoors.

You know what it's like - get the Spending Review document... first thing you do is CTRL+F it for 'Yorkshire'.

Don't tell me I'm the only one doing that.

There weren't many returns for that search this time around - but it's not a normal Spending Review.

The new Levelling Up Fund of £4bn will be open to all parts of the country - meaning the north will have to compete with other places for money.

Changes to the Green Book, the rules government uses for deciding whether a project is value for money, mean that schemes up here might get another look.

And we finally got some detail on the Shared Prosperity Fund - the stack of cash designed to replace EU regional development money.

Towns and cities up here will be looking very closely at how they can get that - having had first dibs on a lot of the money given out by the EU in the past.

Officers say they found more than 700 cannabis plants in nine raids this month on cannabis farms on Clayton Avenue, Smeaton Road, Cross Street and Tom Wood Ash Lane, in the village of Upton near Wakefield.

It's believed the street value of the recovered plants, when cultivated, would be in excess of £750,000.

The seven-day infection rate in the borough has halved in the last two weeks from the second-highest in England at more than 600 cases per 100,000 people to 296 per 100,000.

Dr Lincoln Sargeant, North Yorkshire’s director of Public Health, said: "I think we have had falls in Scarborough which are certainly greater than we would expect just from the effect of the lockdown.

Dr Sargeant said despite the fall the battle was not over and that the county “was not out of the woods yet”.

He also warned people despite the relaxation of social distancing rules for Christmas people should not put loved ones at risk.

He said: “Even though certain things might be permitted it may not be in your best interest.

“There may be some families that could bring together three households but they choose not to because they've looked at individual circumstances and decided it wouldn't be safe to do so."

A giant fatberg weighing as much as a car has been found blocking a city centre sewer in Leeds.

The 1.5-tonne mass was recovered from a sewer in City Square outside the Queens Hotel, say Yorkshire Water.

It took four nights for a team from the company to break the blockage into pieces after fat built up in a 100m section of sewer.

The firm said in some sections the fat had blocked up to 60% of the sewer, preventing sewage from flowing naturally toward sewage treatment works.

Mark Hammond from Yorkshire Water, said: “This incident took a lot of time, effort and teamwork to remove.

“While pouring fats and greases down the drain may seem harmless, we know the build ups caused by frequent disposal of these liquids can have significant consequences.

“We’d urge everyone to help fight fatbergs in our sewers by disposing of fat and oils in the bin," he added.

The address, which is on Coltman Street, was targeted by police after several incidents of illegal behaviour, Humberside Police said.

Tim McGowan, from the force, said the court order bans people from living at or visiting the property for three months and will bring an end to the "misery" it's caused nearby residents.

He said: “We know the impact that having a property like this in your area has on your sense of safety and wellbeing and it’s not something we’re prepared to tolerate.

“We have continued to take action against the occupants of this address, carrying warrants, seizing drugs and weapons, making arrests and disrupting their activities."
