    A fundraising appeal has been set up for workers at a 14th Century North Yorkshire pub restaurant which was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

    The fire Andrew Pern's Star Inn at Harome ripped through the building's 4ft (1.2m) deep straw roof and destroyed much of its supporting frame on 24 November.

    Sandy Greetham who has set up a donations page, external said: "Hopefully by doing this it will show Andrew Pern and the team how much love and support is out there.

    "This will sadly affect the lives of many families who work there.

    "This small amount will hopefully give them some security for lack of wages to help them get through Christmas."

    Liam Gallagher says he was "jealous" of the people who spent three nights snowed-in at the Tan Hill Inn after they travelled to watch an Oasis tribute band.

    More than 60 people were stranded when heavy snow from Storm Arwen cut off the inn, in North Yorkshire, on Friday with the last of the guests not leaving till Tuesday.

    Customers at the inn, which is 1,732ft (528m) above sea level, had travelled there to see Noasis, an Oasis tribute band.

    Writing on social media, external after being asked what he'd say to the tribute act, the former Oasis frontman replied: "I’m actually jealous I'm always trying to get a lock inn (sic)."

    The pub has nine guest bedrooms, which meant some people bunking in with each other while the remaining guests took to mattresses, duvet and sleeping bags on the floor.

    Pub manager Nicola Townsend said: "We were delighted to hear from the big man himself

    "We thank him for his kind comments and I’m sure the boys from Noasis are equally as pleased.

    "It's been a strange, crazy but wonderful time."

    Dozens of windows across Saltaire are being lit up in the run up to Christmas as part of the village's Living Advent Calendar.

    Morecambe and Wise featured in the previous Living Advent Calendar

    The calendar, which has been going for 15 years, sees households and community buildings decorate their windows and reveal them one by one throughout Advent.

    David Humphreys from Saltaire Inspired, which is behind the event, said the calendar had proved so popular they sometimes have more than one new window being unveiled each day.

    "We have so many people wanting to do it and we now have a record 62 windows this year," he said.

    "We have a beautiful Dickens themed widow and a cafe with floating burgers in their window. We've got one that shows Three Kings waiting at a bus stop, all wearing face masks."

    About 300 homes and businesses are still without electricity in North Yorkshire after Storm Arwen caused outages across the UK.

    Some households now face their seventh night without power.

    Northern Powergrid says it's "working around the clock to restore power to 11,500 customers across the North who are still affected., external"

    Energy regulator Ofgem said it would examine the speed of energy companies' responses, external and the resilience of the UK power network in extreme weather.

    Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said Storm Arwen resulted in the biggest disruption since 2005 and the scale of the restoration was "enormous", with the worst-affected areas in the north of England and north-east Scotland.

    Three men holding "a large amount of money" offered to buy a woman's young daughter, police have said.

    The mother and child were walking along Batemoor Road, Sheffield, about 08:20 GMT on Wednesday when three men approached her.

    When the woman refused and ran towards nearby Lower Meadows School, she heard a "screech of tyres" as the men fled the scene in a vehicle.

    South Yorkshire Police has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

    PCSO Kenneth Blake said a man, of "possible middle eastern origin" and in his late 30s or early 40s, made the offer.

    He said the man wore a grey hoody with stripes at the sides, "dirty navy bottoms" and a head warmer which partially covered his face.

    A warning's been issued in Lincolnshire about a scam email urging people to order a PCR test, external for the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

    Writing on social media, external, the Lincolnshire Resiliance Forum told people not to click the link on such emails, which "goes to a fake NHS website".

    The forum posted on Twitter: "Beware of fake NHS emails asking you to order 'an Omicron PCR test'.

    "The NHS will: NEVER ask for payment NEVER ask for your bank details."

    A further appeal has been made by police after a pedestrian was hit and killed at a road junction in north Doncaster.

    A black Vauxhall Astra struck the man where Fordstead Lane meets Almholme Lane at about 11:10 on Friday 19 November, South Yorkshire Police said.

    He died as a result of his injuries and the 23-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    The driver was also held on suspicion of driving while above the drug limit. He's since been released under investigation.

    Following the incident, officers appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

    South Yorkshire Police said: "We're now appealing for the drivers of a white Sprinter-type van with chevron markings on the back door, which was towing a trailer with a mini digger on the back and a white-coloured Transit van to please get in touch."
