    A multi-vehicle crash is leading to 30-minute delays on the A1 southbound near Blyth.

    Highways England said a road closure between junctions 35 and 34 is currently in place, and is advising road users to use diversions, and leave extra time to get to their destinations.

    A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was hit over the head with a bottle in a nightclub died.

    Derbyshire Police said the 23-year-old man was assaulted at Vibe bar in the town just before 04:00 on Saturday.

    He was taken to hospital but died just before midnight last night.

    A 24-year-old man who was arrested remains in custody. Police have not said what he was arrested on suspicion of.

    LNER services have been been delayed because of a track safety inspection between Retford and Newark North Gate.

    The train operator says disruption is expected until 16:00.

    A yellow warning for snow has been issued across the East Midlands.

    The Met Office said the snow was expected to bring "some disruption Monday afternoon", with "road, bus and train services" likely to be affected.

    The warning is in place until 19:00 GMT.

  6. Gritters out in Nottingham as temperatures expected to go below 0Cpublished at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Nottingham City Council's gritters will be out on the roads this afternoon as road surface temperatures are expected to reach -0.3C, and -1.2C on Tuesday.

    Throughout the week road surface temperatures are expected to go below zero, with the possibility of ice build up.

    Temperatures on the roads are expected to increase on Friday.

    The first early school closure has been reported following a downpour of snow.

    Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne said students are currently safe and warm indoors. Those using buses will be dismissed as and when they are available.

    The snow in Nottinghamshire is already beginning to cause issues on public transport.

    Nottingham City Transport has said there are no bus services through to Arnold, Whitby Crescent and Ramsey Drive areas.

    A tweet from the bus operator said: "Lime 56, 57 and 59 are terminating at Thackeray's Lane roundabout."

    There are reports of several problems on the roads this afternoon.

    Highways England said the M1 is closed southbound between junctions 25 and 24 due to a crash.

    Bus company Trentbarton is reporting problems on the A52 between Derby and Ashbourne due to weather conditions.

    A three-vehicle crash on the A1 is blocking the road southbound between Blyth and Ranby.

  12. Three-vehicle crash shuts A1 in Nottinghamshirepublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Three vehicles have been involved in a crash on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

    Emergency services were called at about 13:15 to the A1 southbound slip road at Barnby Moor.

    Nottinghamshire Police said two lorries and a car were involved and "injuries are not believed to be life changing".

    The road is currently blocked with debris and traffic is building up.

    Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

    A cat needed one of its front legs amputated after it was shot.

    Police said the "horrific" attack on one-year-old Monty happened on 31 January in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire in the Oak Rise and Lansbury Road area.

    He was taken to a local vet who confirmed there was a pellet in his leg and that it had caused injuries so severe his leg could not be saved.

    Insp Heather Sutton - from Nottinghamshire Police - said it wasn't an isolated incident.

    "We are aware that there has been a number of reports of incidents involving cats in the area and want to reassure the community that we will not tolerate this behaviour and will investigate any such reports that come through to us," she said.

    Police said Monty is recovering and getting used to using three legs.

    The local vet surgery that treated him is offering a £1,000 reward for anyone with information which could lead to a prosecution.

  14. Police intervene with A52 closure congestionpublished at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Police have been called in to help tackle traffic disruption in Nottingham caused by the closure of the A52 at Clifton Bridge.

    Highways England shut the bridge eastbound on Thursday after it was discovered that water damage had corroded some of the steel works underneath the road.

    One lane was then also closed westbound.

    It caused major delays across the city last week which continued into this morning.

    Nottinghamshire Police is now working with the city council to keep key junctions clear.

    This morning officers were at the junction of the A60 London Road and Meadows Way/Meadow Lane.

    Both the council and the police are advising more people to consider switching to public transport while the closure is in place.

    Supt Paul Winter said: "We will be working with the city council to try and keep trams and buses moving so if you work in the city centre and can use the tram this may be a quicker way to get to work."

    Police have appealed for witnesses after a woman was raped in a park.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the attack happened between 00:30 and 01:00 at Nottingham's Forest Recreation Ground, near to the Forest Road East entrance, on Sunday.

    A 27-year-old man was arrested and has been released on bail.

    Det Insp Jamie Hill has urged people to be vigilant and reassured the public "a full investigation is under way to identify the man responsible".

    The man is described as black, 5ft 7ins tall, skinny build and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark-coloured puffa jacket, light grey tracksuit bottoms and light grey trainers.

  16. Roof collapses into road and crushes carpublished at 10:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Storm Ciara has caused the gable end of a three-storey house to collapse onto the road crushing a car underneath.

    The owner of the house on Hamilton Circle in Leicester said the family was woken about 04:00 and thought the crashing sound was an "earthquake".

    Saaed told the BBC they were "shocked and shaken up".

    He said: "We heard a bang noise and woke up. We thought it was an earthquake. Our neighbours woke up and told us our whole roof had fallen down."
