A new pedestrian footbridge over the River Trent in Nottingham will be completed in the next three or four years.
The long-awaited bridge, open to cyclists and pedestrians, has now received £9.2m in funding from the Government.
However one condition of the funding is that it has to be spent – or committed to be spent – before April 2023, and work needs to have got under way by then.
Detailed plans are yet to be drawn up for the bridge, but it is expected to go between Lady Bay Bridge and Trent Bridge.
It will link to the Waterside development on the city side, which is currently under development, to Victoria Embankment and eventually to Colwick Park.

One of Trent Bridge's six lanes could be opened up to cyclists as part of a scheme to create socially-distanced travel options.
The idea would see the bridge’s left-hand lane on the way into the city turned into a cycle route with the barrier, which currently blocks off the pavement, moved into the road to create a sectioned-off area.
Victoria Embankment would also be opened up for cyclists and pedestrians.
The exact location is yet to be confirmed by the city council, but is understood to be from Wilford Grove, which runs through the middle of the Meadows Recreation Ground.
Access would still be available for cars driving to the paddling pool and bike track.
Further details are expected in the coming weeks about exactly how the schemes would work.
