A bar in Swadlincote will close earlier at weekends to reduce the risk of drunk people failing to observe social distancing.
Boddell's, in Belmont Street, shut its doors at 21:00 on Saturday after learning there were "a number of people around the town centre who had been drinking all day".
Pub bosses said the decision was a "proactive rather than reactive measure" and no customers were asked to leave for not following rules.
In a post on the venue's Facebook page, external, they said: "Understanding that it will take some time for people to become fully accustomed to the 'new normal' of pubs, especially after a few drinks, we have subsequently taken the decision to close earlier on weekends for the time being.
"The overwhelming majority of our customers followed the guidelines to the letter which we are extremely grateful for, and their safety is our primary concern."

Chesterfield Borough Council has cancelled its annual Christmas lights switch-on due to uncertainty around lockdown measures later in the year.
There will also be no 1940s market and Fireworks Extravaganza, which were planned to start in November, due to coronavirus laws currently prohibiting public gatherings.
The authority said, due to the scale of the events, which can attract about 20,000 people to Stand Road Recreation Ground and Chesterfield town centre, it was "critical" that it made a decision now.
Councillor Kate Sarvent said: “I understand that lots of people will be very disappointed by this decision.
“The problem is that we don’t know what the future holds, and just as the public need certainty about their safety, the many partners who commit their time and money to help us to deliver these events also need certainty."
She added that the events will return in 2021.

Derbyshire County Council said it is spending £25,000 on installing double yellow lines on roads near tourist hotspots.
It follow months of "ridiculous scenes" across the county with drivers "abandoning their cars wherever they like", the authority said.
The lines are being painted on roads near Carsington Water, Foremark Reservoir and a disused quarry in Wirksworth.
The council said some visitors to these attractions have been causing congestion and obstruction by parking on nearby roads.
Councillor Simon Spencer, said: “We have seen some ridiculous scenes across the county over the past few months.
"People have just been abandoning their cars wherever they like with no regard to other people, or their own safety. This has meant there have been some accidents at these places."
He said it was "galling" to spend tax-payers' money on this but said it will allow parking officers to issue tickets to those who park there.
Police visited Foremark Reservoir last month during a crackdown on dangerous parking.
Drivers parked on a verge near double white lines were given fines and points on their licence.
At least one car was seized by officers.
