    I was watching closely yesterday to see what would happen and whether we would get any snow.

    There was some concern the weather computers weren't agreeing with each other, and that the snow might not reach us. But it certainly did!

    It was - 6C in some areas last night and it will be an icy start today, so there will still be some snow around, but as temperatures rise this afternoon there might be some snow melt.

    Some schools across Nottinghamshire have also announced they will be closed today.

    They include Bluecoat Primary Academy in Bilborough, Bunny C of E Primary and The Nottingham Emmanuel School in West Bridgford.

    Most are reporting that home schooling will continue as normal.

    Some schools in Leicestershire and Rutland have already announced they are closed this morning due to the heavy snow and freezing conditions.

    The include Uppingham Community College in Rutland, external and Gartree High School in Oadby, external who tweeted about their closures last night.

    The schools, which were only open to children of key workers, said remote learning would continue for all pupils at home.

    There are delays to dozens of bus services in Nottingham this morning because of the icy road conditions.

    Some services are diverting their usual routes to avoid the most dangerous roads - you can find full details of those affected here, external.

    Arriva said many of its services across Derby and Leicester have also been disrupted today. They have tweeted full details of the routes affected., external

    Around 600 homes in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, are without power this morning.

    Western Power Distribution said they were alerted to the problem affecting 860 properties at about 05:30 GMT.

    It said some houses had since had their power restored, while everyone else should be back on by 07:00.

    "Our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible," the company added.

  7. 'Heaviest snow in north Leicestershire for nine years'published at 06:36 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2021

    A local weather expert said there had been a lot more snow in Leicestershire and Rutland than had originally been expected, and it was the heaviest in north Leicestershire since February 2012.

    Phil Moorish tweeted, external: "By the end of Sunday I had recorded 10cm in Mountsorrel with 14cm in Loughborough and 15cm in Melton and Oakham.

    "These amounts are much more than I was expecting as the weather front bringing the snow had much more energy than originally forecast and then it stalled!"

  8. Schools closed after heavy snowpublished at 06:30 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2021

    Some schools in Derbyshire are closed this morning following heavy snow across the county.

    Etwall Primary, Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne and Dovedale Primary were among those to announce last night that they wouldn't be open on Monday.

    Many of the closed schools have confirmed they will use their Covid-19 remote learning systems to offer online schooling to pupils at home.
