  14. Volunteers to solve Boston's "dismal" Christmas light problem published at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

If you went to Boston over the Christmas period, you may have noticed an absence of Christmas lights:

    town centre

At the time, Boston Borough Council couldn't justify the £40,000 cost of decorating the town with festive lights, critics labelled it as "dismal".

Now it seems that a team of volunteers has been set up to do the job instead.

There's been £10,000 worth of funding promised for the group, and they're considering crowdfunding and other options to pay for this year's lights.

It's hoped the quality will return to that of years gone by (pictured below).

    Quote Message

Everybody was very disappointed with what happened... It can't be any worse than last year

  15. Lincolnshire Police rated "good" by police watchdog published at 09:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

The police watchdog HMIC (Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary) has rated the county's force as "good", the second highest rating.

Only one police force in the country was given the best rating of "outstanding".

    lincs police

Last year Lincolnshire Police was rated as requiring improvement.

Zoe Billingham is the inspector who has written this year's report, she says it could still be better at tracking down wanted suspects:

    Quote Message

information is related to a wanted person is circulated on a national computer and officers think that's the end of it, it isn't. They still need in Lincolnshire to continue to make all of their inquiries to find that person and bring them to justice.

    Clare Crooks
    BBC Local Live, Hull

Humberside Police has been told they must improve.

Inspectors say the force is "routinely failing" in the way they deal with vulnerable victims of crime.Humberside Police says improvements have already been made.

    Humberside Police sign

Humberside Police says improvements have already been made.

    Quote Message

We are disappointed with the overall grading of ‘requires improvement’ and in particular the grading of ‘inadequate’ for protecting vulnerable people. However, since the inspection took place last September, we’ve made huge leaps forward in this area, and I’m pleased that HMIC have acknowledged this in the report. The HMIC inspection team made a return visit in November and were encouraged by the immediate response by the force to the issues identified."
