Sleaford Standard

After complaints about the amount of rubbish being thrown into the River Slea in Sleafird potentially harming wildlife, the town council and volunteers are taking action.

The River Clean Team, manned by local volunteers, will be out this Sunday, external and will meet at the National Centre for Craft and design at 10am.

Dry at first this evening with some late sunshine in the east. Thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread from the southwest late evening into the early hours of Saturday, some heavy.

Trading Standards will be jumping on the bus on Monday to help raises awareness of scams.

It's all part of Scams Awareness Month, where officers will be offering advice to passengers on the Interconnect 6 Skegness to Lincoln service between Wragby and Horncastle.

The initiative is made possible thanks to the Lincolnshire Police and Stagecoach's #BusBeat partnership which sees PCSOs using services as a way of promoting crime prevention.

Three people involved in a large fight at a Boston nightclub have been given suspended prison sentences.

It broke out at the town's Goldfinger club last October.

Lincoln Crown Court heard single mothers Demi Healy and Ayla Carlon, both from Elizabeth Road in Boston, were enjoying a rare night out when they became involved in the fight.

23-year-old Healy was seen on CCTV pushing and punching a man.

Carlon, who's 19-years-old, was shown repeatedly stamping on a man and then kicking another clubber in the back.

38-year-old Terry Raggo,from Fenside Road, was also involved.

He was seen throwing punches and swearing at the police.

After pleading guilty to affray, the judge said he was only sparing them custody because they had no history of violence.

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for witnesses to help with their investigation into a collision in Spalding.

A woman on a red bicycle suffered minor injuries after a collision with a car at around 20:20 on Tuesday 4 July.

The incident occurred near the entrance to the Castle Sports Complex on Albion Street.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact the police on 101.

It's been a great day for anyone involved in BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Save a Life campaign, as today it was announced that 10,000 people in the county have been trained in CPR.

In case you missed it, here's the moment that figure was revealed...

Now we're giving it until the end of the year to see just how many people LIVES, external and St John Ambulance, external can train.

Three boats which got into trouble when hit by heavy squalls had to be rescued by Wells Lifeboat yesterday.

The first call was to the Sea Mist cabin cruiser. One of its two engines had overheated and had to be shut down, making it difficult to manouvre as skipper Richard Comrie tried to cross the bar into Wells harbour.

They were between 10-15 miles off the north Norfolk harbour when they radioed for help, and with sea washing over the boat they nearly lost their dinghy.

The second rescue was of an elderly couple. Their 65ft barge was caught in heavy seas off Salthouses, and was making little progress because of the heavy westerly wind.

The third vessel, a 22ft yacht, suffered engine and communications failure, but managed to raise the alarm on a mobile before it stopped working. She was reported to be 10 miles north of Wells and 10 miles east of Skegness.

It was a race against the ebbing tide to get her over the bar while there was still enough depth of water.

Lifeboat spokesman John Mitchell says it was "touch and go".

The Local Government Association is calling for a review of building regulations following the fire at Grenfell Tower.

It says the current system is confusing, and it'd be wrong to wait for the results of the public inquiry, before taking action.

The LGA's Chairman is Lord Gary Porter - who's also the Leader of South Holland District Council.

He wants assurances that people aren't at risk:

Members of a drugs gang which brought thousands of pounds worth of cocaine and heroin into Grantham have been given jail sentences totaling 40 years.

The drugs were bought into Lincolnshire from London.

Lincoln Crown Court heard heard that the drugs - which came into Grantham over an eight month period in 2015 - had a street value of more than £375,000.

Today, five Lincolnshire men have been sentenced for their parts in the drugs supply chain.

The men, who are all from the Grantham area, are aged between 19 and 38.

The court heard that one of them - Jermaine Francis (pictured) - moved up from the capital to head up the operation; he was jailed for 8 years.

The other men were handed sentences ranging from 6 years in prison, to 16 months in a young offenders institution.

A week after it was attacked by vandals, one of Lincoln's Knights for the Knight's Trail, external is back in the city.

Proud Knight had a rather nasty crack to the bed of his head.

He was taken to Cardiff to be fixed.

Two people were arrested and charged following the incident which also saw another knight thrown into the river.

He's now back on his plinth and will be back under the Stonebow tomorrow.

Plans to build 200 new homes in Nettleham near Lincoln have been scrapped.

The national planning inspectorate rejected the plans because they were at odds with wider plans for the area listed in the Neighourhood Plan.

West Lindsey District councillor Giles McNeill is glad they've been rejected:

He added the Neighbourhood Plan, external is about empowering communities to make decisions about how they want their communities to develop.

Most parts of the county should see a dry day with bright or sunny spells, although cloud may be thick enough to give the odd shower, mainly in the west.

A Lincoln youth club which was burned down almost a year ago won't be re-built.

Fire ripped through St Giles Youth Centre last September.

Managers want to improve and add a play park to neighbouring St Giles Community Centre which youngsters can use instead.

Leader of the Lincolnshire County Council Martin Hill says its makes sense to use the present community centre which is next to where the old youth centre stood:

Money used to run the centre will be put back into providing services instead.

The council will also resurface the games area and provide new play equipment.

Yesterday we told you that a teenage boy was seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a car on his bicycle in New York.

Lincolnshire Police have now said the injured cyclist is a 13-year-old local boy.

He was taken to Boston Pilgrim hospital then transferred to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he remain in a serious condition.

Now you may remember when the Alzheimer's Society had to shut its sessions in Sleaford due to funding cuts at the end of last year.

Well a new group was set up and they've raised £7,000 to keep it going.

The dementia support group says they've been overwhelmed by the support and donations.

Lincoln City have completed the double signing of Peterborough United's Michael Bostwick (left) and Harry Anderson (right).

Central midfielder Bostwick has played over 200 times for Peterborough during their spells in the Championship and League One, and was named their Player of the Year last season.

He has been linked to moves with the likes of Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers in the past 12 months.

As for Anderson, the winger showed what he could do during two separate loans spells with City last season as he helped them gain promotion to the football league.

Bostwick signed a two-year deal with Anderson agreeing a three-year contract, and the pair have signed for undisclosed fees.
